The annual Northland Clubs NZ tournament was held on28thAugust with 33 teams taking part, with clubs from asfar away as Paihia in the north to Papakura in the south.Over the day there were some good bowls played by a lotof very competitive teams. Three teams came through with
4 wins and another three had 3 wins. The winners were:1stBob McKinney, Murray McLean and Roly Brown fromthe Waipu Citizens Club. 4 wins, 25 ends 61 points. 2ndPaul and Sue Wightman and Len Lawrence from Man-gawhai 4 wins, 21 ends 38 points. 3rd David & Jo Hoodand Bill Schultz from Paihia Servicemans Club 4 wins, 18ends 38 points.
Our Summer Bowling Season opened on 11th Septemberwith two Bowls Openings, (a pity the weather forgot it wassummer). In the morning Maungaturoto, a great turn outwith President Mooney welcoming all present with a spe-cial welcome to Connie McMurchy, one of our Life Mem-bers who traveled down from Whangarei to be present.Patroness Valda Mann and Patron Rex Broome put up thefirst kitty and bowl respectively.In the afternoon the greens were handed over to BowlsNorthland for the Centre Opening. The Northland Presi-dent this year is one of our own, Mr. Albie Paton, whowelcomed the Mayor of Kaipara Mr. Tiller, the Far North
President, other distinguished guests, and a large gather-ing of representatives from other Bowling Clubs in theNorthland Centre.
Despite the weather, a most enjoyable afternoon was hadby all.
Tuesday Morning Roll Ups be there by 9.15am for a9.30am start. All welcome to come and give it a go. Wesupply the bowls, but please wear soft soled shoes. ContactNaira Phone 4319 134
