Masters in Mathematical Industry in Spain
Research groups belonging to the Spanish Network for Mathematics & Industry
are involved in masters which have an important industrial proyection. We
classify them into 3 types:
Erasmus Mundus - cooperation between European universities and the
rest of the world
o Mathematical Modelling in Engineering: Theory, Numerics,
Applications (MathMods)
Interuniversity masters - taught simultaneously by different Spanish
Universities
o Master in Mathematical Engineering
o Master in Mathematical Modelling, Statistics and Computing
o Master in Statistical Techniques
o Master's degree in Statistics and Operations Research
University – taught by just one Spanish university
o Decision Systems Engineering Master’s Degree
Students, who enroll in these masters, have the knowledge required thanks to
their first degree. They also become part of a multidisciplinary team, in which
each of them contributes with his/her knowledge to solve a specific problem.
Study methods apply the latest technology to train students, which will help
them later on when joining companies, due to the increasing demand of
specialized professionals.
Furthermore, the masters count on the presence of several partner companies,
which help students in different subjects or allowing them the possibility of doing
Master`s project in the company. The companies involved in the Masters are
interested in a wide range of problems from different sectors such as:
Environment, Finance, Automotive, Biomedical, etc.

Objectives
The master wants to provide students with a cross-cultural education while
they get acquainted with both theory and applications of mathematical
modelling in engineering.
Mathematical modelling lies at the heart of most current technological
innovations and has become a fundamental tool in many fields of
engineering. Essentially multidisciplinary in its applications, mathematical
modelling and simulation is in its own right a key technology which is bound
to increase its presence within efficient industries and business innovation
departments. This programme reflects this multidisciplinarity, drawing on
the unifying mathematical aspects from the various and often separate
engineering disciplines. This allows the development of an essentially
unified methodological approach to modelling and simulation of real
engineering challenges.

Companies present problems to the students from their fields of work in
the "Workshop on Industrial Matters". After collaborative discussion and
analysis among company professionals, master staff and students, these
problems are developed by students into dissertations, under co-
advisorship by academics and industrial professionals. Occasionally,
internships are offered by companies.
