Curriculum Information
• Graded Subjects: Religion, Math, Reading, Writing, Spelling, & Handwriting.
• Science & Social Studies are taught but not assessed until 3rd Grade.
• Grades: Grades will be calculated based on class work, participation, special projects, home assignments and tests. In 2nd grade, grades are alphabetic (0, VG, G, S, I, & U) in the major subject areas. Every effort will be made to ensure that your child will be successful!
Grading Scale• Outstanding (O) = 96.5% - 100%• Very Good (VG) = 90.5% - 96.49%• Good (G) = 85.5% - 90.49%• Satisfactory (S) = 76.5% - 85.49%• Improvement Needed: (I) = 69.5%

Curriculum Information
Tests: Your child will be notified in advance of test dates and this information will be on his/her homework sheet and on our classroom’s website. In addition, a test folder will be sent home with your child once a week, usually on Wednesdays. All tests must be signed and returned as soon as possible.

Library & Accelerated Reader
Program
• In Computer class, students will take the Star Reading Assessment. This program helps determine the level book that a child should select from the school & classroom libraries.
• In Library class, students will be allowed to select 2 Accelerated Reading Books each week. Students read these books and will take computer quizzes in school in order to assess reading comprehension.
Library & Accelerated Reader
Program• Students earn points for reading AR (Star)
books. In our classroom, there are rewards/incentives for the AR Program.
• For every 10 points a child earns, he/she is allowed to visit the Prize Box.
• Medal Ceremonies:Bronze Medal – 30 AR PointsSilver Medal – 60 AR PointsGold Medal – 90 AR PointsPlatinum Club – 120 PointsDiamond Club – 150 Points

Classroom Policies & Procedures
• Star Cards: At each child’s desk is a Star Card Holder. Students earn stars for completing class work & homework as well as good behavior.
• Students accumulate stars and can trade in for various prizes – stickers, candy, Prize Box, & lunch with Miss Tigue.
Classroom Policies & Procedures
• Special Celebrations in our classroom are held on Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, & End-of-the-Year.
• A Sign-up sheet is posted in the hallway. Please only select 1 celebration.

Star of the Week• Our classroom Star of the Week Program
will begin in October. Please check the website for the schedule.
• When students are Star of the Week, they design a poster all about their likes/interests.
• Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are allowed to visit our classroom to read during that week.
