FOREWORD
Manx 2 Day Trial Foreword
I was delighted when I was asked to write the foreword for this years Manx 2 Day Trial. For those who don't know me, my name is Ian Murphy (Murf) and I am the Clerk of the Course for the trial, a position I have held since 2006. At the end of the 2005 event, the then Clerk of the Course Phil Ward, retired, leaving the committee looking for a replacement. Well they looked and looked but no one came forward for the job. I took the job temporarily until someone could be found and 13 years later I am still here waiting for that someone!..... The Manx 2 Day has now become a way of life for me. There have been many problems to face and changes to make, some good, some bad and some totally fantastic but any changes made by the committee are all done with the best interests of the event at heart. Three or four years ago the event was in decline with falling entries. We, the committee, took the op-portunity for change and moved the event to the new July date. I am pleased to say this was one of the best things we have done. Now we are back to a situation where the event is over subscribed and entries fill up with in a few days of opening. I will also say that if the date had not changed the 2 Day Trial would not have survived. I have been attending trial events all over Europe since 1996 and have also been involved in running four World Trial rounds and two TDNs but with out a doubt the Manx is by far the best. A big thank you now to the rest of the 2 Day Committee, without them there is no trial. The same goes for all the Marshals and Observers and the many landowners on who we depend year after year. Finally to you the riders who continue to support us, a massive thank you all.
Murf

The most successful competitor in the History of the Manx
National 2 Day Trial chats
What a weekend!
My first experience of the Manx 2 Day was back in 1980, and from that
moment, it became a very important part of my life, initially just purely
for the brilliant 2 days and 3 nights, riding, talking bikes, and later at
night a right load of rubbish! As time moved on it added another factor,
the ultimate competition, winner takes all. Whilst it was still the most fun
you can have, the run back to Douglas on Sunday afternoon was the most
nervous you can be on a bike. But it’s not all about winning. Obviously
the Island has that very special X Factor for anyone with bikes in their
blood. The variety of sections, plantations, moors, tracks, and views, never
mind the famous sections of the TT course just add to experience. It’s not
just all that, that make it so special, it’s also the friends, the banter, the
laughs, the people. It’s just such a friendly event, with a lovely warm feel
right from Friday to the early hours of Monday morning.
I hope you all have a great time, and tell your mates at home what
they’ve missed.
Do your best to take time to catch the view., If it’s clear, you’ll get lost
wondering which distant coastline you can see, is it Scotland, the Lakes,
Ireland or even Wales. It certainly used to confuse me, but I was too
young to appreciate it all, and just wish I could do it all over again, I
wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe a few stupid 5s.
Robin.
