PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS
Thank you
A special thank you must go to Melissa Slade for organising
yesterday’s Cupcake Day to help out with some fundraising
for the McLeod family. Thanks also to the wonderful parents
who volunteered their assistance in baking and selling the
cupcakes. We really do have a caring community. In the near
future we will be also holding a Mufti day and a Trivia Night
to complement yesterday’s effort. Thank you so much to all
involved.
School Hats
Our students look terrific in their new hats! We ask that
they remain at school each day and that the children wear
these whilst playing outside.
Work Progress
The builders have informed me that the work around the
school should be near completion early next week. After that
we should have an excellent COLA in the quad, shade sails
over the students’ lunch eating area, two covered walkways
installed with seating for the students who catch the buses
each afternoon. I’m sure, like me, you can’t wait for this to be
finished.
Environment Lessons
Four of our classes took part in special Environment lessons
run by an educator from the Wyong Shire Council. 3N, 3/4R,
4C & 6S students enjoyed the activities run in our Hall last
Tuesday. The educator, Marc, complimented our students on
their attentiveness and excellent participation!
Give Me 5 for Kids/PJ Day
This initiative, organised by the 2GO Radio Station, has been
running for twenty years now and the money goes to a
worthwhile cause - Gosford and Wyong Hospitals. We are
asking our students to bring in any 5 cent coins they can
afford to add to a Giant Snake which will be kicked off in our
old quad area.
Children coming to school in their pyjamas are asked to
donate a gold coin to also assist in the fundraising.
Reports
The Department of Education and Communities mandates that
all students will receive a report twice a year. This report
contains information about how your child is learning the
expected outcomes as outlined in the syllabus documents. In
2014 Mannering Park PS is teaching the NSW syllabus for the
Australian curriculum in both English and Mathematics. This
has meant that our reports have changed. Our
reports will come home on Friday Week 8 (20 June).
The report your child will bring home soon uses the
language of the syllabus. It has a summary of the
knowledge, skills, understanding, values and attitudes
that have been developed by your child as a result of
achieving the outcomes for each stage of learning. It
will also have an overall grade and report on the
effort your child has made in each Key Learning Area.
All reports for each stage contain very similar
comments for each child in each of the Key Learning
Areas. The general comment will be very personalised.
Please feel free to see your child's teacher to discuss
the report.
Understanding your child’s report—Meeting in
Library on Tuesday, 17 June 3.15pm or 6pm
We strongly urge at least one parent from each
family to attend one of these sessions. The executive
team will explain the NSW Syllabus changes, the
implications for reports and show work samples and
corresponding grades. We would like all parents to
have a good understanding of the report BEFORE the
reports go home. Please mark the date on your
calendar. In order to best accommodate the needs of
our parents, we will run two sessions - one at 3.15
and repeat the session at 6pm.
Peter Mandroules
Principal.

Work Samples
5/6W have been looking at their identity and values.
They developed a self-portrait to show how they
identify themselves. They used pencils to sketch the
outline, then oil pastels to add in the details. Look for
their portraits further in the newsletter.
The Early Actions for Success Initiatives…
Our teachers were keen to see another way of
conducting lessons, so I organised for them to visit
Tighes Hill Public School on Tuesday. We took Mrs
Schultz, Miss Morley, Ms Henderson, Ms St Clare, Mrs
Hopley and Mrs Purcell. We visited a Kindergarten
classroom, a Yr 1 and a Yr 2 classroom. We were
looking for the levels of student engagement, lesson
structure and how teachers gave feedback to their
students. I was in Instructional Leader at THPS in
2013 so I knew the students, the staff and the school
culture very well and felt it would be very beneficial
for our staff to see the wonderful teaching practices
and student learning occurring at THPS.
THPS was very welcoming and we had a wonderful time
looking at best practice in action. Our teachers were
all very excited and have ideas they will be
implementing in their classrooms as a result of this
experience. We are always striving to provide the best
possible learning environment for our students at
MPPS. We will continue to review and refine our
teaching and monitor student learning.
Mr Mandroules and I will attend a State Conference in
Sydney for Early Actions for Success for two days
next week. We look forward to learning more about
how to assist our students to achieve improved
academic performance and support our teachers to
deliver engaging and stimulating lessons that cater for
all students.
If you are keen to assist our teachers in their
classrooms, or have some time to assist us with making
resources, please come and see me. We welcome all
parents and value any assistance you can provide.
