Managed by CENTRIS, Digital Public Address System (DPAS) is performing using two major software applications: "PROCESS" and"SUPERVISOR". "PROCESS" application runs on the Industrial PC located in the matrix rack and which is a part of the DPAS. It controls all the operations of theDPAS, excluding the operation of the backup mode, and it handles all data flow and process. System can be equipped with dual redundant IPC with a controller that synchronise in real time mode the data between the primary and thestandby unit. Each IPC equipped with the 'PROCESS' application is capable to take in charge all the functions of the DPAS. "SUPERVISOR" application is mounted on the Local Management Terminal Unit, made of a portable compatible personal computer. The LMTU allows the control of the parameters of the DPAS and is the tool for the maintenance team to access to the DPAS for simulationsand data collection for diagnosis purposes.
IPC "PROCESS"APPLICATIONManagement of LMTU : This module takes in charge the data transfer between the LMTU and the 'DPAS PROCESS'. The LMTU functionsshall be able to exchange data with the IPC through this module. Management of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) : The RTU is the communication part of a third party Integrated System Control. All thecommands and information shall pass through this module. It allows the exchange of the different MODBUS tables that concerns the operationof the DPAS. The Process is capable to communicate with two RTUs, each one connected through a specific com port on each IPC. Management of Microphones : The microphone units that are connected to the DPAS shall be able to transmit commands to the matrix usingthis module. The PROCESS shall also transmit relevant system status to the microphone using this module. Management of I/O function process : Different status information such as discrete alarm information from the UPS, SCR backup microphone… shall be connected to the IPC using the I/O parallel input cards. This specific module shall do the process of this information. Management of Digital Voice Announcer (DVA) function : The DPAS includes two sound cards in each IPC. The built-in sound cards aredelivering AES/EBU digital signal and accept analogue inputs for recording. Under this function the process shall manage the recording and theplayback of 1000 messages. Management of Double Process : Two IPCs can be provided on the DPAS for redundancy purposes. The PROCESS shall include a specifictask to manage the switching, upon a specific instruction from the RTUs, from one IPC to the other or upon a fault information. This task shallinclude the routines to handle the data base synchronising between the two IPCs. Management of System Event : The DPAS PROCESS generates data concerning the different instructions that has been issued by thecommand functions to control the subsystems. These events are stored on the IPC and a summary shall be retrieved, if needed, by the LMTU.Management of the switching: Whenever a switching command is generated by the concerned modules the "Process" analyse the requestand with respect to the built-in routines generates instruction to control the matrix switching of the specific Input to the requested Output. Management of the Sound processing : The Digital matrix having capacity to make sound processing. The parameters of the processing istransmitted by the PROCESS to the different modules of the digital matrix. These parameters are the values that has been set using the LMTU.Whenever a switching command is generated by the concerned modules the "Process" analyse the request and with respect to the built-inparameters generates instruction and transmit to the modules to control the sound processing while the switching is performed. Management of Analogue Input Cards : Each time the specific analogue sources (PABX or UHF) need to access the DPAS the instructionshall be transmitted by the Analogue Input Card to the IPC and processed through this module. Management of Surveillance (CPNX) : The surveillance of the Amplifiers and the Speaker Lines is handled by the CPNX coupled to the IMPEDand the DET. The "PROCESS" has access to this information using the surveillance module.
LMTU "SUPERVISOR" APPLICATIONThe DPAS operating parameters are programmable via a Local Management Terminal Unit (portable compatible personal computer) which willenable rapid, easy alteration with access code, to perform the following features:
- Parameters: System parameters set-up (baud rate, labels), Matrix parameters set-up (tone control, anti-feedback, …), Paging desks pushbuttons configuration and access codes set-up
- Simulations: Simulation of matrix switching, Surveillance, amplifiers status, speaker lines status, impedance measurements, DVAControl, DVA recording, DVA parameters…etc.
SUPERVISOR Menus:User mode : It displays the zone selection panel for simulation from the LMTU. It is possible, using this function, to select any available zoneand to choice the broadcasted over program: BGM, message, 1 KHz test tone …. . etc. The zone selection buttons shall have three status : Idlestatus, Zone selected by LMTU (button engaged on graphical display), Zone busy status when occupied by another input (a yellow dotdisplayed). Audio Matrix Status : It displays the Audio matrix switching status: The screen shall display the different inputs and the different output zonesavailable on the matrix.
- System Status : It displays the equipment status of the system: State, Normal or Fault, of the different microphones inputs, the differentInterface and the different equipment present in the system, like the IPC, the power supply, the Matrix or the UPS.
- Amplifiers status: Normal, degraded or faulty. - Speaker lines status: Normal, Fault, open or short circuit. Value of the last impedance measurement in Ohms, Value of the reference

With a proven track record of enhanced surveillance systems, MERLAUD offers different tools to achieve a full-path surveillance PAsystems in accordance with industry standards.
The ‘Fireman’ microphone fault, including the coil failure, are detected at the matrix input and is appropriately reported to controlequipment such as MAN918 or PC controlled systems such as CENTRIS.
The CS849SR, thanks to its built-in microprocessor and RS422 serial links, handles the management of the amplifiers failures andthe speaker lines faults. It collects data from amplifiers, displays the status and transmits the information to MAN918 or PC managedsystems. It also handles the switching on standby amplifiers.
The MAN918 or the PC, equipped with appropriate software, communicates with the different CS849 units and collects the status fordisplay and centralising.
A digital PC controlled Impedance meter shall be used for accurate Speaker line Impedance measurements.
The AMB series (80W - 150W - 320W) are AC/DC operated boosters with built-in microprocessor for surveillance handling. Theyinclude all the necessary detectors to check for the audio Input signal, Amplifier performance and Speaker line health.
The speaker lines are typical 100V using a single pair with no additional wires or interfaces.
The CABM and CAB A are used as battery secondary power supply.
Beside these complex systems, a simplified 20KHz signal detector unit DET500, with fault reporting output contacts, carries out thefull path consolidated fault reporting.
