Liberation through Education
Objective

Rajaram Shreedhar was 18 months ofage, when he was afflicted by cerebralpolio attack, which incapacitated hisleft hand and both his limbs
He was provided formal education for8 years. Those were the days, there
was less awareness about the needsof the differently- abled ,due to whichhe had to quit.
His early window to the world werethrough The BBC and Deutsche Welle[Voice of Germany]
His indomitable spirit made him selflearn Astrology, and soon peoplestarted flocking to his door with theirdreams, hopes and fears, forcounseling.

An active participant in Citizens Run from its inception.
Participant in various Charitable activities.
Contributed to the cause of Visually challenged by setting up a Audio
Library, during the 90s.
Involved in activities to help CP kids of economically deprived, by guiding
them for treatment. Was Awarded Best Social Welfare Worker by TN Govt. in 2004
Recipient ofDr.Batras Award for Positive Health in 2010.

A small incident which was instrumental to the start of Maithri.
Whenever he went out on his wheelchair pushed by a volunteer
in the streets.he would come across children loitering around in
groups. One day when he asked them why they dont go toschool ,they replied that they were drop-outs, because they had
no money to buy books, notebooks or pay school fees.
This incident prompted Sreedhar to start Maithri in 1991, with a
few like minded friends contributing to the cause.

Education for Kids from Economically deprived class.
So far, support for more than 250 students, for their Education.
Almost 30% of the students are doing their Degree
20% of the students are in the Secondary Education levels.
50% of the students are in the Primary Education levels.
Most of the students are in Chennai.
10 are Engineers, well settled in the US and the Middle East.
Additional inputs
Acquisition of books, notebooks, uniform and shoes
Monthly Revision exam for Xth Std, Secondary Level students.
Intervention based on the scores of the Revision exam. Special coaching done for Xth & XIIth student, preparing them for
Board exams.
Monthly intervention on Self Development for College students.
A weekly intervention on English speaking for College students.

Healthcare
An extension of Educational Assistance
Medical camps for economically deprived & physically abled.
Regular Health camps undertaken & conducted. Physiotherapy Unit was established & services provided to the need free
of cost.
Free Medicine supplied to Children with motor co-ordinated deficiencies.
Free Eye Camps , inlcuding Free Eye surgeries , Catract Related
assistance.
Upto Rs. 70,000/- spent annually on Medicare for elders of economically
deprived & Children with motor Co-ordinated deficiencies.
Distributed 15 Calipers, 10 Wheel Chairs for Physically Abled.
Provided 20 Sewing Machines to Self Help, small business starters.

Participating in Organising Disaster Relief Services, during
Earthquakes in Uttarkashi, Gujarat.
Cyclones in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh.
Tsunami in Tamilnadu.
Maithri helped in collecting bedsheets, blankets, mats & cloths.
Co-ordinating with Womens group & NGOs, providing placement,
Counselling services.
Networking with existing Organisations related to Maithri activities. Awareness & updating the Organisation members of ground reality.

Other initiatives by Maithri Trust
Earn as you Learn College students sponsored byMaithriTrust, engage in tution programs for Class X, XI & XII students,
after their college hours. This enables them to actively improve theknowledge of younger kids sponsored by Maithri & also generate
income to supplement their family income.
Maithri aims to ensure the following to children from poor and / or
broken families, destitute and the ones with special needs:
Schooling,Meeting special needs,
Providing mobility and other assistive appliances
Therapy, early correction, family counseling, community education

Both these honorable donors contribute to almost half of Maithri Trust
annual educational expenses.
The rest of the funding comes through Corporate Community development timeto time.
Added to that is the donation from individuals.
