Energy Sources
Micro-hydro power plants are fairly plentiful source of electricity•NCDC support for 50 kW community-owned plant•3.2MW private plant recently constructed•Provide electricity for rice and flour mills
Community installed peltric sets (water turbine/generators) for electricity production
Solar photovoltaic arrays for single home scale electricity production
EWB working in Ilam district to install biogas digesters•Fuel for cooking stoves and home heating

RKSustainable Community Development 2009/2010 Mabu, Nepal Team
Previous SCD team identified high incidence of waterborne disease as most critical problem for Mabu.•Latrine construction selected as the best solution for this problem
• Collaborated with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Haifa-Technion Chapter and Biogas Sector Partnership – Nepal (BSP-Nepal) to construct biogas digesting latrines• Provide energy source for
community in addition to addressing problem of waterborne disease
• Behavior change communication program developed to supplement latrine construction and help ensure sustainability of solution
•Traveled to Mabu to complete actual construction of latrines
