Intellectual Property and
Human Rights – A Paradox
Edward Elgar 2010
Cultivate.4 Utrecht University 8
..The general theme of conference and book relates to the fact that in today's intellectual property law, human rights play a paradoxical role.
•On the one hand, human rights are presented as the fundament of the intellectual property law system and its distinct domains.
•On the other hand, human rights are used as instruments to restrict and limit the execution and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

cultural heritage is a group of resources inherited from the past which people identify, independently of ownership, as a reflection and expression of their constantly evolving values, beliefs, knowledge and traditions. It includes all aspects of the environment resulting from the interaction between people and places through time; art. 2(a)
