To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow –
maybe or maybe not?
As we draw towards the last few days of the school session for
2016 -2017 it is always uplifting to watch and listen as the annual
school show comes together. The mood of the building is buoyed by
the music and buzz of rehearsal.
This year’s show is a rather offbeat choice. Most of the pupils
who form the cast and crew hadn’t heard of it. It is a show based
around a rather strange character called Audrey II.
There were restrictions on the specification for the role of
Audrey II given that it required someone of ‘small stature’.
There was point, indeed, where it seemed like it might be a toss-
up between Mrs Rutherford and myself. Thankfully we were
saved at the eleventh hour by one of our former pupils, Jenna
Healy, who interestingly enough intends to train as a dentist. I’m
sure you will get the significance of this as the story unfolds.
Tonight’s production is a showcase for a great deal of the
ingredients which create the excellence epitomising St Ambrose
High School. The efforts and enthusiasm which are essential in
making this happen are the very components which help to build
well-nigh invincible relationships between pupils and staff.
Talented young people nurtured by staff from across the whole
school work in harmony, on and off stage, to ensure we have a
show worthy of the school’s reputation.
A quick glance at tonight’s programme gives an indication of the
impressive extent of the involvement of students and staff.
I’m know that you are in for a musical treat. However I am a
little concerned that it make put you off making your next
dental appointment.
Enjoy the show and thanks for your sterling support.
Mrs Douglas, Head Teacher
Foreword
Little Shop of Horrors is a delectable sci-fi
horror musical with an electrifying 1960s
pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard
Ashman.
Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected
assistant at a floral shop who happens upon
a strange plant, which he affectionately
names “Audrey II” after his crush at the
shop. Little does he know that this strange
and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B
voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable
thirst for HUMAN BLOOD.
As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the
carnivorous plant promises limitless fame
and fortune to Seymour, as long as he con-
tinues providing a fresh supply of blood.
Just when it’s too late, Seymour discovers
Audrey II’s extra-terrestrial origins and
her true drive for world-domination.
