Love your liver before it’s too late: Reducing the risks together
East Cheshire NHS Trust has teamed up with Cheshire East Council, Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Cheshire and Merseyside Public Health Network (ChaMPs) to host the first joint alcohol public health awareness event in East Cheshire.
Friday 7 September 2012 at Macclesfield Town Hall, Assembly Room
Registration from 1.00pm
According to national statistics, Cheshire East has significantly worse than average levels of binge drinking, Macclesfield town having the highest rate with 26% of adults binge drinking at a level that will cause them harm. In addition the numbers of women and under 18s being admitted to hospital with alcohol specific conditions is higher than the national average. Last year 1,912 bed days were taken treating individuals with alcohol related harm at Macclesfield District General Hospital. The cost to the NHS of dealing with alcohol harm in Cheshire East is in the region of £30 million a year. If you add in the impacts on the Police, local authority and businesses the costs escalate to £119 million.
