Issue 12- Term 2 – Week 3 1
Some very important messages this week. The middle of term 3 is looking very busy with probable dates, beginning Monday 15th August. Please take the time to add these to your diary so that you can plan your time and finances.
a. Week 5 - School Production
b. Week 6 - Year 4 camp
c. Week 7 - School Ball
d. Week 8 - Year 5 Camp
Thank you to all the wonderful parents who attended our mother’s and grandmother’s concert. It was lovely to see so many of you here. A special thanks to Mr Scarborough and Mr O’Brien who served the ladies tea/coffee and muffins. Based on the success of this event I have spoken to the staff who would like to invite more of you to share some of our special assemblies. Now that we have access to our new hall we will be holding special award ceremonies about twice a term, as well as presentation assemblies for events like public speaking competitions. I think the benefit for all the recipients of awards as well as performers is evident in their confidence. We have had major difficulties with uniforms this year. This has been caused by inconsistent suppliers. Our girls’ tunics are no longer available locally, and we are having difficulty sourcing them farther afield. The alternative to the tunic are green pants, to be worn with the white shirt or white skivvy. We are even considering looking for a new supplier for white girl’s shirts. Boys’ uniforms remain the same.
The supplier of our tracksuits has changed manufacturer, and so the design and quality has also changed. We are not as happy with the current jacket as it is less warm than the original, and it lacks as much shape as it doesn’t have an elastic waist. The school is now discounting the remaining supply of the jackets (non-elastic waists) down to $25 (half price). While we are making a loss on these it seems to be the only alternative. If you have purchased a jacket (without the elastic waist) earlier in the year feel free to come to Michelle Rowsell or myself if you wish to discuss some reimbursement. We will be discussing the quality of the jackets with our current supplier so we can continue to provide this popular part of our school uniform. A reminder that Flanagan’s will embroider our emblem on other jumpers for a cost of $5.00, and that most other uniform items can be bought at Lowes or Flanagans.
Also don’t forget to turn to page 4 to see our many photos and story from years 6 visit to Canberra.
Yours in Education, Ian Foulstone Principal Nulkaba PS

Nulkaba Athletics
Carnival 2011 On Wednesday 4th May, we held our annual
school Athletics Carnival at Turner Park. WE
had a great turnout of students and parents

had a great day. We had a few records
broken at the event with Eva N breaking both
the 100m & 200m school 11yrs girls records
and Lachlan O breaking the Junior Boys
Discus record. Well done Eva and Lachlan.
Thankyou to all the parents who helped out
with the time keeping, judging and canteen
and a special thanks to the parents and
teachers who competed in the
parents/teachers race.
Our zone cross country isn’t held until week 3

Nulkaba Cross Country 2011
In Week 1 of this term Nulkaba Public School held our annual Cross Country in the Hunter Valley Gardens vineyard. Despite the changeable weather conditions we managed to run our event with only the smallest of showers. The students had great fun on what was a challenging course and was made all the better by a friendly visit from some local kangaroos and hares. All the students competed in the right spirit of the event and we have selected our zone team to run on Friday of Week 3 at Bellbird. Good luck to those selected and a special thank you to Sean O from HVG for his assistance in making this event possible.

CANBERRA 2011 Year 6 students visited our National Capital, Canberra in the last week of Term 1. While on this excursion they participated in a variety of educational programmes focusing on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit their National Capital as part of their civics and citizenship education. The Australian Government, through their PACER programme (Parliament and Civics Education Rebate) contributes funding which is paid to the school at the end of the excursion, this helps meet some of the travel expenses. We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support of this program Our students visited Parliament House, The War Memorial, The National Galery and the National Dinosaur Museum. Familys can visit the schools web sites to see more photos and videos from this wonderful excursion.
