In a first, IHC celebrates Lohri through an ode to the feminine graces of the festival. Vocalist Sunanda Sharma, from the Benaras Gharana & Punjabi Sufi singer, Rekha Raj, present an evening of singing, dancing and eating together around a bonfire on

    ththe 13 .

    Combining the classical, the folk and the modern, Vrindan (1st), an ethno-music ensemble, heralds the music performances for the month. Artistes from both

    thCarnatic and Hindustani styles come together to perform Laya Madhuram (8 ), one of the longest and rare thalas in Carnatic percussion music.

    thBeethoven's 250 birth anniversary commences, Sunit Tandon introduces a live video film of his only opera. Florestan is a political prisoner. To rescue him, his wife, Leonore, joins the staff of the prison, disguised as a young man 'Fidelio'. The gaoler Rocco's daughter, Marzelline, falls in love with this young man, rejecting the advances of her father's assistant, Jacquino. Leonore finds her husband just before the prison governor, Pizzaro, attempts to kill him. She prevents this attempt by revealing her true identity, when a trumpet announces the arrival of the Minister for Justice, who saves the day.
