What Derek likes to do!

I’d like to tell you all about what I have been doing...

In the office I volunteer and do the shredding.

At Speke Hall, Brian and I had a go at baking and got shown how to mix flour, Flora and how much

sugar to put in. They asked if we would like to do any more cookery, which I would like to do.

Emma goes to America! My name is Emma, for my holiday in September this year I went to California USA.

California is on the East side of America and it is 8 hours behind England’s time. We had to get two planes, one to London, were we stayed overnight so we could catch an early plane to America the next day.

It took a very long time to get there. It was very hot, you could not sit in the sun and we had to put sun cream on. We saw the beach called ‘the Weightlifters’ Beach’ and people were surfing there on big waves.

While we were there we hired a car and used it to visit Disneyland where we saw two plays, they were called ‘Fantasia’ and ‘Colour of Life’. We also visited a Shopping Mall and to a Halloween night; we saw lots of costumes.

One of the people with us had a birthday while we were away. During her birthday breakfast we met some Disney

characters’ including Mini-Mouse, Mickey-Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Chip and Dale.

We had lots to do, I do not know how we fitted it all in, but we had three weeks of fun!

Thank you to Sonic! Some of Mencap Liverpool’s volunteers and members enjoy getting involved in fundraising.

We especially love it when volunteers can think of new and exciting ways to fundraise!

This month, new volunteer Sonic dressed up as Scooby Doo for one of our bucket collections. Sonic’s bucket raised a record-breaking amount, and helped us reach a total of over £300! Thanks very much Sonic!!

Sonic is a record breaker!

Mencap Liverpool’s Gentleman’s Club

On 22nd November 2012 I went for an enjoyable visit to the Beatles Museum at the Albert Dock with the Gentleman’s Club run by Laura and James.

In the museum there were pictures and exhibits charting the history of the Beatles, from their beginnings as the Quarrymen to their break up and subsequent solo careers.

Each of the rooms in the museum had a theme relating to an aspect of the Beatles or one of their albums. For example there was a replica of Mathew Street and the Cavern Club, a model of a yellow submarine and the White Room with the white piano used by John Lennon to perform the song ‘Imagine’.

After we had finished in the museum we sat in the cafe and had a drink and something to eat. After that we went to visit the Beatles 4-D show at the Pier Head. The weather was so horrendous that we had to travel by taxi. The 4-D show was very entertaining. To view it you wore special glasses and at certain points during the show the seats moved or water was sprayed to enhance the overall performance.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Beatles museum and the 4-D show and look forward to my next visit with the Gentleman’s Club which will be to the Ice Bar in Liverpool One.

We hope you enjoyed this edition of Listen Up!
