Light – lesson 2
Target To know more about the properties of
the image formed in plane mirrors.
Investigating mirrors
The diagram shows a ray box shining a ray of light on a plane (flat) mirror.
The normal is at 90 degrees to the mirror.

Question
Key facts about plane mirrors
The image formed in a plane mirror is: Erect and not magnified. Virtual (cannot be projected onto a
screen). Forms as far behind the mirror as the
image is in front of it. Laterally inverted – left side of the object
appears on the right side of the image.
Some beautiful pictures showing reflection of light in different
situations.
