INDIAN CULTURE

INTRODUCTION
• We have made a presentation about the Indian culture and and a few facts about it. We chose India because
Likhitha was born there. We made our presentation using Keynote and information from the internet.
We hope you enjoy it.
CAPITAL OF INDIA AND LOCATION
• The capital of India is New Delhi. New Delhi is located within the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
• The Arabian Sea lies to the west of India, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean lie to the east and south, respectively.
POPULATION
• The current population in India is about 1.22 billion in June 2014.
• The highest percentage of the population in some places in India are; Dadra and Nagar Haveli which is 2.3%, Maharashtra 3.11% and Uttar Pradesh population is 1.79%.
LANGUAGE• In India there are only two of the main languages that they speak.
The most popular language in India is Hindi which most of the Indians speak, there is also english.
• All of the languages in India are Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu,Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia and Assamese.
• Here a some basic phrases:
Hello/goodbye = namaste Thank you = shukhriya How are you? = Aap kaise hye Nice to meet you = Aap sya mil ka khu shi hui What time is it? = Kya samay hai
RELIGIONS• In India there are three different
types of main religions/beliefs. 80% of the people in India are Hinduism. Other main religions are Buddhism, Islam and Christianity.
• All of the religions around India are Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism and Zoroastrianism.
GOVERNMENT
• The government of India is officially know as the Union Government and Central Government.
• India's’ leader is called Pranab Mukherjee.
HOLDIAYS AND CELEBRATIONS• In India most of their celebrations
they have are to celebrate their culture. The names of some of the celebrations are:
Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Navaratri, Dussehra, Durga Puja, Onam, Krishna Govinda and Pushkar Camel fair.

ECONOMY AND MAIN EXPORTS
• In India there are 313.2 billion main exports. • India’s economy had become the worlds most fastest
growing major economy from the last quarter of 2014, replacing China’s.
NATIONAL COSTUME
• Women in India usually wear outfits called Saris, salwar, kameez and Ghaghra Cholis.
• Men in India wear outfits called Dhoti, Lungi, and Kurta. Most younger boys wear the same.
• The girls in India mostly only wear something called a Pavada.

NATIONAL CUISINE• In India, the most popular
national cuisines are:
• Rice with flatbread or wafers which they dip into sauce.
• Dal Mahkni, it is a butter based lentil gravy dish served over rice.

FACTS• The name ‘India’ comes from the River Indus, the valleys around
which were the home of the early settlers.
• The board game chess was invented in India.
• Martial Arts were first created in India, and later spread to Asia by Buddhist missionaries.
• India's Hindu calendar has 6 seasons: spring, summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and prevernal.
• India is expected to be the world's most populous country by 2050. With 1.6 billion people, it will almost equal the U.S. and China's population combined.
