REPORT
The new building is understood to be the modification of a pre-existing route around the Alhambra, hence the willingness to integrate it into the landscape using mechanisms of fusion with the surrounding nature, entering inwards, and of imitation, wherein the concrete adopts the colour of the land so very usual in previous interventions and in the monument itself. All of this is done with the intention of ‘blurring’ the boundaries between the building and the landscape.
The projected building inserts itself along the gently sloping path that descends from the parking area. Once the path levels off where the next access area is located near the end of the route, visitors are able to get a first look at the Alhambra ensemble and the Generalife, and thus a first glance at what they wish to visit.
This transition space, covered by a large pergola, strives to provide the visit with a sense of beginning.
The idea of sequence and transit continues to shape the project in its inferior spaces. The luminous upper level descends ceremonially until reaching the lowest hall, where ground level is recovered. This hall, darker, finally opens up to the Alhambra. Its slope and relative gloom attempt to underline and increase visitor expectation through the immediacy of the visit.
