LaserLyte’s Trigger Tyme™ Laser Full Size
By: Sal Palma
I spent the last four years of my military service
as an instructor. During that time, I trained
teams from our own services as well as a
number of international partners. Throughout
my assignment, I maintained a focus on
developing skillsets and teaching a systematic
thought process.
One of the primary reasons our students are
not performing as well as others around the
world is that they’re being taught memorization
but not application of learned skills using a
systematic thought process. They are learning
how to solve problems but not think through
them, and we see that most often reflected in
mathematics scores. Effective training is the
summation of learned skills, through repetition
and corrective feedback, and learning to think
through a problem, or situation, to correctly
apply the most appropriate skills in solving the
problem. Both parts are symbiotic, essential
and inseparable in order to achieve maximum
performance, whether solving Integral Calculus
or engaged in a carbine course.
In the shooting sports, instructor led training
cannot and should not be substituted; however,
it can certainly, and should be, augmented by
ongoing individual training so that skills learned
are reinforced and engrained.
One of the best ways that I’ve found to
supplement instructor led training is through
the use of laser based technologies like those
designed and manufactured by Laserlyte.
Based in Cottonwood, AZ, LaserLyte Inc. has
been on the leading edge of developing safe
and practical laser training tools that can be
used anytime and anywhere by the entire
family. LaserLyte’s lines of laser training tools
allow the shooter to train with his or her
preferred firearm to enhance personal
experience.
The company has recently expanded that
product line to include full-sized and compact
training pistols with integrated lasers, and sold
under the name of Trigger Tyme™ Laser. These
training pistols fire an integrated laser with
each trigger pull, and when used in conjunction
with any of LaserLyte’s laser training targets
provide the trainee with a very real experience
that is exceptionally valuable in perfecting
trigger pull, sight alignment, follow through,
drawing and holstering the pistol.

Laserlyte went to great lengths to duplicate the
weight, trigger pull and feel of a real firearm.
The company’s full-sized trainer pistol mimics
the ubiquitous Glock 19. The compact version is
patterned after the Glock 42
The integrated laser is adjustable for windage
and elevation, with the supplied hex wrenches,
to suit your needs. The ability to adjust windage
and elevation means that you can align the
laser to coincide with your preferred sight
picture. I like the laser dot to sit tangentially
and centered with my front sight post.
The laser trainer is powered by (3) A-76
batteries that deliver an estimated 50,000
activations. Replacing the batteries is done by
the user and the battery compartment is
accessible from the right side of the pistol.
The pistol’s trigger is what you would expect
from an off-the-shelf firearm; it is not
adjustable but feels very close to what you’d
see in any number of commercial offerings -
basically lots of take-up but with a crisp clean
break, and of course no reset point. The trigger
pull is set to roughly 5.5 lbs; again, consistent
with out- of- the -box semi-autos.
LaserLyte went with “Novak-like” fixed sights,
which is in line with a number of off-the-shelf
service or conceal carry pistols.
One of the features
worth mentioning,
because it’s not
intuitive, is the duration
of the laser activation.
The pistol is set to fire
the laser on trigger
break; however, the
laser remains on for a
sufficient amount of time to reveal any trigger
pull or follow through problems very
successfully, so the shooter receives instant
feedback on their performance.
Any smearing of the laser dot suggests a
problem that can be immediately addressed by
the shooter who is forced to focus on and
correct said issue or issues.
In working on this review, I was challenged
trying to capture the actual firing of the laser,
but I did managed to get a picture albeit of
questionable quality, so I’ll apologize in
advance. I had to invent some backlighting then
use a timer to capture the event. The subject is
the laser firing so you’ll have to forgive any
anomalies, or the lack of a more glamorous
background.

LaserLyte’s Trigger Tyme™ Laser Training Pistol
accomplishes several very import things.
First and foremost, it’s a system that if
employed on a regular basis serves to reinforce
everything you’ve learned from instructor led
training. It also provides you with immediate
feedback; particularly true when used in
conjunction with LaserLyte’s trainer targets.
Safety is another huge consideration. The
Trigger Tyme™ pistols cannot be loaded with,
nor will it fire, live ammunition, so you can
practice anytime and anywhere in the presence
of family members who may wish to join in.
However, part of that training regime is to treat
this tool as a real pistol, and I encourage you
not allow unsupervised children or irresponsible
adults to use the trainer pistol as a toy. Always
remember that bad habits are hard to break.
The LaserLyte Trigger Tyme™ Laser Pistol has an
M.S.R.P of $149.95, for either the full-sized or
compact model. When combined with one or
more of LaserLyte’s trainer targets you’ll have
at your disposal a very flexible and cost
effective system for sustainment training. You’ll
have the option to train safely in the comfort of
your home or office.
I have personally seen positive results from the
use of LaserLyte’s laser training tools and I’m
sure you will too, so be sure to check then out
at LaserLyte Trainers.
