Feast of the Baptism of the Lord: Today marks the end of the Christmas season. The stories of Jesus’ birth are over. Baptized by
John and filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus is now ready to proclaim the Good News. As the Son of God, He certainly did not need to be baptized, purified or given the life of God! Yet, He subjected Himself to baptism so that the world would come to know that “He is the Beloved of God.” You can’t get any better than that!
We are the baptized and therefore, we are the beloved of God. Like Jesus, we are to bow to the will of God, live beyond ourselves and share the Good News of Christ with others. Our Family of Parishes’ mission is to share with others the truth that “Jesus lives within us”, so that like Him, “we can change the world.” It should be clear to us in our Family of Parishes that the priests and the church staff can no longer carry the entire burden of teaching the Good News. It belongs to each of us – parents, grandparents, single, married, young or senior – we are to be missionary disciples of Christ. Working together, our parishes will be strong and our Family will thrive! Remember, we are “beloved” by God.
Update from the Pastor: As most of you are aware, I have celebrated some Masses during the Christmas season. It has been such a blessing for me to be with our Family of Parishes. I miss celebrating the Eucharist with all of you and have been so pleased to have had the opportunity to share the Word of God with you as well. My recovery from knee surgery is going well. If the progress continues, I hope to resume my responsibility as Pastor sometime in early February. Heartfelt thanks for the many prayers, cards and get well wishes received.
