Aims of the session…

• Consider literacy and how it is / or could be taught across the curriculum

• To give you some practical ideas and resources that you could use in the classroom to improve literacy (with a focus on writing).

Task:

Spend about 4 minutes at each table. When the time is up, we will rotate.

There are also different snacks on each table!

Key Principles of LAC

• Improving literacy and learning can have an impact on pupils’ self-esteem, motivation and behaviour.

• It allows students to learn independently. It is empowering.

• Good literacy skills are a key factor in raising standardsraising standards across all subjects.

• Language is the main medium we use for teaching, learning and developing thinking, so it is at the heart of teaching and learning.

• Literacy is best taught as part of the subject, not as an add-on.
