Preparing for university is one of
the most important things anystudent has to do. Making sure you
have the academic and language
skills you need to succeed will
make your transition to university
life a lot easier. The International
Study Centre at Lancaster
University teaches you these skills
as well as ways to enjoy living and
studying in the UK.
Your frst day at
UniversityFrom the day you start at the
International Study Centre, you are
a student of the University. You will
study and learn on campus, and
have access to University facilities
such as the library, sports hall and
Students Union.
University-style teachingThe International Study Centre
introduces you to the style ofteaching that you will experience on
your degree. Taking part in tutorials,
seminar-style classes and larger
group lectures means you will be
well prepared once you progress
to your degree programme. You will
study English language as well as
academic subjects relevant to your
chosen degree.
Direct progression to
your degreeJoining the International Study
Centre guarantees that you will
receive a conditional oer of a
degree place at the University.
In order to progress from the
Business and Management
Studies route to a degree at the
Lancaster University Management
School (LUMS), you will be required
to nominate four degrees.
From all other pathways youwill be required to nominate
three degrees.
English LanguagePreparation (ELP)
If you do not have the Englishlanguage level required to start
the International Foundation Year,
you can take one term of ELP
to improve your English to the
required standard.

Study structureYou can choose one of four
Foundation routes:z Business and Management
Studies
z Engineering and Computing
z Law and Social Studies
z Life Sciences
All Foundation routes are modular
in structure.
You will study core modules
common to each route, plus
subject-specic modules, each
carefully designed to focus on the
academic areas most useful to
your chosen degree.
Modules may be subject to

Assessment
You will be assessed regularly
throughout the course. This willensure that your progress is on
track to achieve the standard
required for progression to
your degree programme. Your
development is monitored through
continuous coursework and
specic assessments at the end of
each term or module. You will also
be required to complete a series
of presentations and extended
essays as part of your overall
assessment.
