School will perform one of themost captivating musical showsof our time, Bye Bye Birdie, onNovember 7-10, 2007. The pro-duction is directed by Ron Pickettand produced by Amy Bush andKathy Simon. The cast includes70 OIS students in two casts with25 additional OIS students as techcrew. Each of the actors’ familieshas taken a role in the production

from set design, costumes, makeup, publicity and many othercritical tasks.

Bye Bye Birdie is a satiredone with the fondest affectionand is tops in imagination and fri-volity. It tells the story of ConradBirdie, a rock and roll singer whois about to be inducted into thearmy. Conrad’s agent and secre-tary concoct one final nationalpublicity plan before his induc-tion. See what ensues when Con-

rad bids a typical Americanteenage girl goodbye with an all-American kiss! Songs AnEnglish Teacher, The TelephoneHour, Put On a Happy Face, OneBoy, A Lot of Livin' To Do, Kids, and Rosie are musical theaterclassics.

Working on a play is won-derful experience for these OISstudents. As 8th grader MatthewBarber said at a recent rehearsal,“I like to sing and act, but themost important fact is that it isFUN!” Many of the kids havebeen in productions over the yearsand developed friendships. Forthe 6th graders, it is exciting to beimmersed so quickly into a schoolproduction. Amrita Newton com-ments, “I have been in severalplays and I always love the feel-ing of being on stage. I am reallyexcited that I was cast as aTeenager in Bye Bye Birdie atOIS!”
