LabVap™ Thin-fi lm Evaporator
LCI’s LabVap is a small thin-fi lm evaporator for R&D facilities de-veloping products and processes involving the thermal separation of process streams using evaporation.
This versatile tool provides a means for evaluating thin-fi lm processing of your products in the early stages of product development within your own laboratories. Only small quantities of material are needed. The rugged stainless steel construc-tion and variable speed rotor allow this unit to operate in very diffi cult conditions.
The LabVap is designed for maxi-mum versatility to evaluate a broad variety of applications. It can provide qualitative results that will help determine if thin-fi lm evapora-tion technology is suitable for your needs.
The basic horizontal design and all systems include:
• All stainless steel process wetted parts
• Variable speed TEFC 1/2 hp motor
• 110VAC SCR motor controller
• Heating jacket for temperatures to 650° F (1500W electric mantle with temperature control as shown above right or SS heating jacket for steam or liquid heating)
The LCI LabVap System includes these additional component options:
• Feed tank
• Feed metering pump
• Shell and tube condenser
• Vacuum system
• Stainless steel frame OR wheeled cart

OPERATION
The basic LabVap can be provided on a back plate which can be installed and supported on a uni-strut or similar frame, often located beneath a ventilated laboratory hood, or on a wheeled cart for portability.
Feed material is metered into the thin-fi lm evaporator at a steadily controlled rate by a feed system suitable for the particular feed material.
Upon entering the evaporator, the feed is immediately distributed onto the thermal wall, by the spinning rotor, as an agitated, thin liquid fi lm. The product is

maintained in a turbulent, thin liquid fi lm by the rotor as it travels through the evaporator. Under these very favor-able heat and mass transfer conditions, rapid evaporation occurs, and the vapor exits through the top vapor outlet for condensation in a surface condenser.
The concentrate (bottoms) fl ows, by gravity, out of the evaporator bottom outlet into a discharge system.
Capacity can be varied by adjusting the feed rate, heat-ing temperature, rotor speed, and/or vacuum to achieve the desired composition result.
