As the youngest European country, Kosovo is still in need for support in developing an integrated child protectionsystem to effectively prevent and respond to violations of children's rights. Tdh improves the implementation of

children’s rights in the child protection and justice systems to ensure that all children are better protected.

    Our intervention

    Child Protection

We advocate for and support policy and service improvement, focusing on the implementation of the Law on Child Protectionand on the provision of specialised child protection services. To achieve a fully functioning system, our team trains childprotection professionals to respond to the needs of children atrisk. We have developed a model of specialised services forchildren in street situations and established the first day carecentre in Kosovo for them. Together with our partners, weempower children and their families and mobilisecommunities to better protect children.

    Children and youth in migration

Poverty, exclusion, and the lack of quality services drivepeople to emigrate. These families and children run great risksalong the way, at their destination or upon return to Kosovo. We help returned migrants to reintegrate and improve theirliving conditions. We encourage children to attend school andour after-school activities. We promote social inclusion of themost vulnerable groups, including Roma, Ashkali and Egyptiancommunities. As a country of origin, transit and destination ofhuman trafficking victims, Kosovo plays an important role intackling this problem. We work on strengthening the nationaland transnational mechanisms of cooperation in the Balkansto identify victims and potential victims of trafficking.

    Access to Justice

The new Juvenile Justice Code in Kosovo requires theapplication of an integrated protection system for children inconflict with the law and promoted diversion measures. Incollaboration with institutions, we are linking child protectionand juvenile justice by developing administrative instructionsderiving from Juvenile Justice Code and the new Law on ChildProtection to ensure that children in conflict with the law arebetter protected. Our team trains professionals who work withchildren in conflict with the law and organises exchanges ofknowledge and experience between governmental institutionsin Kosovo and various European countries.
