BACKGROUND ON COLLEGE READINESS TESTING
MEREDITH AUSTIN, ED.D., HUMBLE ISD 2020
College readiness tests like the SAT and ACT play a significant role in not only your chances of getting into
college but also your chances of being awarded scholarships and grants to *pay for* college. For both
your admission to a school and your eligibility for merit scholarships, getting good scores on your standardized tests that represent the student should be one of your
priorities!
MEREDITH AUSTIN, ED.D., HUMBLE ISD 2020
True or False?● The ACT is “easier” than the SAT.● I have great grades so I’ll do well on the SAT or ACT without
studying.● I need to take the SAT or ACT prior to the spring of my junior year.● If I ace the SAT or ACT I can get into any college I want.● You should never guess on the SAT - you lose more points for wrong
answers than those left blank.● You should be a strong STEM student to take the ACT

READING & WRITING DIFFERENCES
MEREDITH AUSTIN, ED.D., HUMBLE ISD 2020
Evidence -Support Reading Questions• big part of SAT Reading but are absent on ACT
Chronological Re ading Que s t ions• On SAT Re ading, all que s t ions give n to you follow
a chronological order• On ACT Re ading, questions can flow randomly and
do not ne ce s sarily follow the orde r of the pas sage
IT PROBABLY DOES NOT MATTER WHICH TEST YOU TAKE.BUT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MASTER BOTH!
