The Mover North East Region
Spring 2013
Dance, one of the oldest forms of
artistic expression, requires only the
human body for its realisation.
Igor Youskevitch ~
Once again, our dancers
took to the floor and interpreted an
eclectic range of music through the
expression of movement. (See some
of the news coverage on Page 2).
This year’s Festival also
featured performances straight from
the National Championships in
Nottingham, delighting the audience
with their displays of talent.

PANORAMA 2015
All youth moves and young adult teams performed with great confidence and ability. The children and young
adults enjoyed being in the limelight and worked extremely hard leading up to Panorama! They were certainly a
credit to their teachers – well done! Amy Holden’s guest item was lovely to watch and the children have made
Amy very proud – they enjoyed watching their school teacher perform too. Amy’s headmistress was well
impressed with Panorama. Huge thanks go to our chaperones and volunteers, without their support it would not
be possible for Youth Moves to perform.
JANET BALFOUR
YOUTH MOVES COORDINATOR
“CAN YOU DANCE?”, SPORTS CENTRAL, NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY
Janet Balfour and I attended the Can You Dance Conference along with two Senior Youth Moves Members– Amy Thew and Kathryn Rayner. The girls took part in all of the master classes and absolutely loved the experience. The conference was buzzing with young dancers. Can You Dance wanted us to showcase our work, but unfortunately the conference was the day after Panorama.
Janet and I are hoping to take our groups to perform next year. The standard of performances was exceptionally high and we all had a great day. (CHRISTINE CHAPMAN)
“Can you dance was absolutely incredible, it was an amazing experience to be able to be taught by professional choreographers. It was fun being taught a range of different styles of dance from contemporary to jazz/musical theatre to commercial. Being in a master-class was a whole new way of learning dance, but was extremely enjoyable. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and the stalls were great. I would defiantly recommend going for the experience and hope to go again in 2016.” (AMY THEW)
EUPHORIA DANCE
Janet Balfour held a 3-day dance workshop over Easter 2015 for her
Euphoria Dance group, culminating in a final dance performance on the
stage at Park View Community Association for friends and families to
watch. 13 girls aged 6-10 years attended. This was a huge success, and
so Janet will be holding a 4 day dance workshop over the Summer
Holidays (Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th August, 1pm-4pm) for 7-11 year
olds at Park View, again with a view to a final dance performance on the stage for friends and families.

National Festival – 30th April 2016
Birmingham Symphony Hall
Our National Festival will once again take place at the Birmingham
Symphony Hall, following our successful event there last year.
The Festival Working Party have met, along with Show Producer Lynne
Casey, and agreed Lynne’s theme of ‘the elements’, encompassing earth,
wind, fire and water.
The title ’Move to the Rhythm’ is to be retained, with a sub-heading of ‘Elements of Dance’.
Lynne hopes that Producers will have lots of scope for creativi ty with this theme.
Your North East Region Producers have been selected as:
Nicola Pilmoor and Denise Durkin, who will each train a team – we are so pleased to have a Mother
and Daughter combination!
We also hope that Christine Chapman and Janet Balfour wi ll be selected to train Youth Moves teams
but this selection is carried out by the Festival Working Party on a National basis.
Each Producer has to put forward two ideas/music titles and the Festival Working Party will choose
one that best fits the whole programme so that there is a variety of item types, music and themes.
Please support the Producers – rehearsal dates will be out soon and will no doubt need to commence
before Christmas given the early date and the intervening holidays.
If you do not wish to perform please do buy tickets and come for the weekend - a great time was had
by all last year. Ticket prices and details of hotel packages will be sent out soon.
Laban Movement Survey
I'm looking to research into whether our Laban based movement has a positive effect on how the brain works. Laban makes and keeps you smarter.
I'm looking for volunteers either teachers or class members, who would take part in a pilot study. This would involve having a chat with me and possibly
completing a questionnaire. I'd be particularly interested in talking to people who have been doing our work for more than 20 years, although those who have been involved for more than 10 years would be welcome.

Special Presentation Evening
Middlesbrough KFA recently had a workout led by Tonia Gabriel. This was followed by the presentation
of a cheque for £500 to a lovely lady called Lucy from the Neurosurgery Unit at James Cook Hospital.
The cheque was presented by Beverly and Alan, whose daughter had received treatment in the Unit
several years ago, and is now fine. The presentation was followed by a cheese and wine supper and
raffle. Altogether, a very successful evening.
Summer Workouts
Middlesbrough KFA will be holding their Summer Workouts every
Wednesday evening, starting on 15th July, for 8 weeks, until 2
nd
September, from 7.30pm to 9pm, at St Mary’s Church Hall, Green Lane,
Acklam Middlesbrough TS5 7AD.
Admission will be £3.50 for KFA members, and £4 for non-members. This
includes refreshments. Each class will be taken by a different teacher, so
there will be a good variety of exercise and dance. Come along and join
us, and have some fun.

Ten Keep Fitters
One keep fitter sitting on a bus, said “Hello” to someone there
And that made two of us
Two keep fitters meet up for tea, had to share a table
And then that made three
Four keep fitters looking around a store, met another in a lift
And then there were four
Four keep fitters went to swim and dive, met another at the baths
And then there were five
Five keep fitters going to the flicks, handed round the fruit gums
And then there were six
Six keep fitters holidaying in Devon, met another on the way
And then there were seven
Seven keep fitters talking at the gate, one met a neighbour
And then there were eight
Eight keep fitters went for a drink of wine, met another in the loo
And then there were nine
Nine keep fitters decided to meet again, although there’s quite a crowd now
One more made it ten
I hope these keep fitters will start a brand new trend, to join a class near where they live
