Kiwanis Gives Back
Member of the Month
Every year our Key Club holds a
Halloween Event which includes
several fun activities for kids such as
arts and crafts, games, movies, a
touch and feel room, face painting,
and a scary hallway. This year in par-
ticular the event went exceptionally
well! As the kids marched through
the doors of Bloomfield High in
their festive costumes, they had no
idea of the fun that laid ahead. At
each of the places they visited they
received generous amounts of candy,
snacks and engaged in Halloween
oriented activities.
The scary hallway was one of the
highlights of this event. The hallway
was essentially the section between
the media center and the art wing,
which this year was extended longer
than it had been in any of the years
past. This space was transformed
through the hard work and dedica-
tion of our members into a mini
haunted house consisting of sound
effects, rotating lights, props and Key
Clubbers dressed up in their scariest
costumes. Between the darkness and
the unexpected pop outs the scary
hallway was immensely successful,
hallway was immensely successful,
not only giving the the kids and their
parents a delightful fright but also
spooking some of our own members
as well.
For the kids who weren’t feeling
up to the scary hallway they could go
through the nice hallway, which was
filled with more fall based decora-
tions and friendlier characters. The
nice hallway lead to the arts and
crafts, face painting, game, and touch
and feel rooms. In these rooms the
kids could created and colored, get
their face painted by some of our
more artistic members, and play vari-
ous games. After visiting all the
rooms many of the children ended
their day by heading to the media
center and watching a movie while
snacking on their candy. The best
part of this event was that the kids
were able to participate in some Hal-
loween fun before the actual date,
which was great especially due to the
holiday being postponed.

Haunted Hall-ows Recap Presidential Message
As we fly into December, we must always keep in mind to help
those who need it the most. Hence why, we are going to start a toy
and food drive to help local families in this difficult time. We
have to be grateful for all we have received this year and now it’s
time to give back. And it’s our turn, as the executive board, to give
back to you! A Member Induction Ceremony was held for all of
you to show your friends and families the importance of Key Club.
It was truly and honor to speak in front of everyone telling them
the wonderful things this club has to offer. With that in mind, we
were able to help a family in Bloomfield have a spectacular Thanks-
giving Dinner. Thanks to your donations, the Kiwanis of Bloom-
field was able to deliver the food to them just in time. Thank you
for all your help!

It’s truly amazing to see the club come together at such grateful
time of year. Each and every single one of you have truly done a
wonderful job so far this year during the service year. Keep it up
everyone! One more thing, I wanted to congratulate all the
Bloomfield Eliminate Game contestants on attending the event,
where the money went to a good cause. Feel free to stop by the
Key Club office at any time and say hi!
A few weeks ago Key Club’s ex-
ecutive and extended board went
to visit all 7 Bloomfield publics
schools to inform the students
about UNICEF and how they
could get involved in the Elimi-
nate Project. As many of you al-
ready know, UNICEF has part-
nered up with Kiwanis Interna-
tional in the Eliminate Project to
eliminate maternal and neonatal
tetanus from third-world coun-
tries around the world. With the
help of the fifth and sixth graders
we were able to take a step for-
ward in achieving our goal.
Visiting the elementary was a
great experience for both us and
the kids. We were able to inform
them on what was going on in
other countries. Many were
amazed at the living conditions
that these people had to survive
in. They were eager to help. Soon
enough we gave them their mis-
sion; to go out on Halloween and
Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF.
and Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF.
They were to collect donations in
their UNICEF box and hand in
their box the following day. The
funds they would collect through
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
would then be transformed into
life-saving dollars and cents. They
all accepted their mission. After-
wards, the reactions we got from
some them were heart warming as
well. “Is there a limit on how
much we can donate?! I’m going
to break open my piggy bank!”
We could tell that these kids
want to make a difference and
will become outstanding mem-
bers of Key Club in their high
school career. Thanks to their
participation we are inching
closer and closer to our goal to
completely eliminate maternal
and neonatal tetanus off the
globe.

UNICEF Trips Recap Member Induction Ceremony
On December 12th, 2012 the
Key Club held it’s first Member
Induction Ceremony. Boy,
what a sight it was to see the
club members come with their
friends and family to partake
such a memorable ceremony.
We had a special guest speaker
who came back to Bloomfield
High School to talk about her
Key Club experience. It was
interesting to see how a Key
Club offered this speaker many
paths and she learned valuable
lessons that she stills uses today
in her field as the secretary to
our Governor, Chris Christie.
Another guest speaker came to
talk about Kiwanis. As she
spoke about how Kiwanis was a
branch off of Key Club and
how they work together in or-
der to make a difference and
work with the Key Club to
make a difference.. Many
parents heard her stories and
were eager to join. Not to
forget our Lieutenant Gover-
nor, Ashna Bhatia, who was
able to talk about how Key
Club not only ran at the club
level, but at the district level.
Mentioning how all the clubs
in the state of New Jersey
work together to make a dif-
ference.
It was a night full of amaz-
ing stories and recognizing all
the hardworking general
members. Hope next year I
get to see you at our Member
Induction Ceremony.

Key Club Induction Ceremony
In the month of December out Bloomfield High School Key
Club will be hosting an event for the first time; Key Club In-
duction Ceremony. It will take place on December 17th at
7:00pm. This ceremony will recognized all the members of the
club that have signed up and informing the parents of what
Key Club does. Not just at the club level, but in an interna-
tional level. It truly will be a special moment when the general
members receive their certificates of their recognition.. Not
only that, but we will have a guest speaker who will show how
Key Club shaped her life. As an alumni of Bloomfield High
School you will get to understand how valuable this club is
and how much you can benefit. All members are invited to
come as well as their families. Maybe, you’ll be up there one
day giving a speech about how this club changed your life.

The Eliminate Games
Stacking cups, moving a can
of soda with spaghetti, grabbing
basketballs, and piling apples?
What in the world was going
on? The Eliminate Games of
course! Our Lieutenant Gover-
nor, Ashna Bhatia, held and
Eliminate Games at Clifton
High School looking for a trib-
ute to represent Division 17.
As competitors raced against
the clock to see who would
come on top. Key Clubbers
from Belleville, Bloomfield,
Becton Regional, Clifton, and
St. Mary’s watched as their trib-
utes competed against each
other. In the end there was
only one winner, Nadine Ali,
who became Division 17’s trib-
ute. The event was a huge suc-
cess as the Division raised a
good amount for the Eliminate
Games.
Good luck to Nadine at the
District Wide Eliminate
Games, make Division 17
proud!

It has come to the time of year
where everyone gets to pig out
and eat til there is no tomorrow.
But has the true meaning of
Thanksgiving faded? This holiday
is centered around appreciating
and giving thanks for everything
one possesses. On November 21,
2012, senior citizens come to the
Bloomfield High School to have
their holiday dinner. Key Club
organizes this special event for
the seniors so that they can have
a memorable holiday accompa-
nied with others. Entertainment
will be available for them to lis-
ten, laugh, and appreciate. The
Thanksgiving Dinner is an ad-
mired event because no one
should be alone on a holiday and
should be socializing with friends
and family.

During December we will be holding a toy and food drive!
We need as much donations we can to make this possible.
Thousand of kids every year go through Christmas without
any gifts. No kid deserves to have a gift-less Christmas. So,
what will you do to help with holiday season?

The Eliminate Project
A major focus that Key Club has this year is the Eliminate
Project. The Eliminate Project is a project that UNICEF is
working on. In third-world countries mothers are passing a
fatal disease to their newborns, Maternal neonatal tetanus.
It’s painful for the child and many of die. It’s a terrible
time when a mother has to watch her child suffer and she
can’t do anything about it. Kiwanians all over the world go
to these third-world countries and give vaccines to these
mothers and all it takes for a vaccine is a $1.80. The same
amount for a cup of coffee. That’s why its our duty to raise
money for the Eliminate Project. We have recently success-
fully eliminated MNT in China, which is a big success. We
want to eliminate MNT from the existence of the world.
We can do this with everyone’s help!

Kiwanis Gives Back
Member of the Month
Last month, we asked Key Clubbers in our school to bring in
Thanksgiving food for a local family in our community. Our locak
Kiwanis came to the school and picked up the food and was able to
give it to the family. We know that times are hard and that’s why
our Kiwanis worked hard to give back. Working together we can
make a difference.
Denise Rigo
Congratulations to Ricky Thompson for being the
member of the month! Your time and dedication to
the club has really shown in the past events. Leading
groups in committee meetings and being a role model
for the Freshmen at Member Induction Ceremony
was an excellent quality you’ve shown. Keep up the
good work!
