Issue 1 Term 1 Week 2 2018
School News
WELCOME BACK – It’s going to be a good year! A hugely warm welcome to all of our new and returning families. 2018 is shaping up to be an exciting year and has already begun in a truly positive fashion. We have many new Kindergarten children and have established six full classes. Their first week went really well and the Kindergarten teachers were very impressed. We also have many new students in other years and we are very keen to get to know them better. Personally, I would like to thank the teachers, students and community for their patience with the process of moving into new classes. We wanted to ensure we only had to make one move and that all students were appropriately placed. The classes for this year are:

'Meet the Teacher Night' On Monday 19 February commencing at 4.30pm you will be given an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. At this time, you will find out more about what is going to be happening for them throughout the year. We are all looking forward to developing a successful educational partnership for your child.
Ruling the School Our ongoing focus on positive behaviour and effective learning means that we will continue to concentrate on four core rules which apply in all areas of the school and all learning environments.
Go Safely Go as a Learner Go Respectfully Go Responsibly
Rules and examples of behaviours that come under each heading will be highlighted each week with the students. This allows us to consistently manage all situations and have a common message being delivered to all students. A friendly reminder that all students are to wear a Colyton Public School hat. These can be purchased from the office for $8. Ms Pate Cooper Principal
Safer Internet Day – Thursday 8 February 2018 Students in Years 4-6, participated in a virtual classroom
experience for Safer Internet Day. Students were taught
strategies to create a respectful and inclusive online and
offline school community as well as how to identify and
report cyberbullying. We trust that our students
understand that while the Internet can be a very useful
resource it needs to be used appropriately and we are to
treat others respectfully at all times.

Book Club Information
Being a new year we thought we would begin with giving
you some information regarding the book club program.
Eight times during the year (twice a term), students will
be given a book club order form by their teachers.
Please take a look through the catalogue at what
Scholastic has on offer, as in most issues there are
bargain books starting at just $1 and $2. If there is
something in the catalogue that you would like to buy,
this is how you can place an order.
LOOP is activated for parents who would like to order by
credit card. LOOP allows you to do all the ordering and
paying online without sending back to school any
paper stubs. Once the school finalises each order, these
LOOP purchases are automatically added to the schools
account and sent to the school. Class teachers will then
give out orders once they come in.
Please note: This is the only way the library accepts
credit card payments.
If you are a parent who would like to pay cash, then this
option is available. Tear off the order form from the
catalogue, write the student’s name and class at the top
and select what products you would like to buy. Once
the form is filled in, place it in a sealed envelope along
with the correct money and hand it into the library.
Ordering books through book club helps the library to
purchase much needed resources. We receive a 20%
reward from all sales which is then used to buy new
books, equipment and supplies.
Regular information regarding book club due dates is
shared via the newsletter. Please take note of the date
when it is published as all orders, either loop or cash
payments must be made by the due date set by the
school. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Thank you for your support in ordering resources from
Scholastic Book Club.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Kelly and Mrs Cox
School Swimming Carnival
The 2018 School Swimming Carnival will be held at Mt
Druitt Pool on Tuesday 20th
February. Due to
increasing student numbers and our changing school
community, there will be some changes to the format of
the carnival this year.
o The carnival will be held after school from 4pm
to 6pm.
o The carnival is open to competitive students
wanting to trial for a place on the team to
represent the school at the St Marys District
Swimming Carnival.
o Parents will need to organise transport to and
from the carnival and are responsible for
supervision of their child at the pool.
Students in Years 3-6 as well as Year 2 students turning
8 in 2018 who can competitively swim 50 metres are
invited to attend.
Permission notes and entry forms have been sent
home today and must be returned to classroom
teachers by Friday 16th
February.

Colyton Public is excited to be taking part in the Coles
Sports for Schools promotion this year. Please help us
collect as many vouchers as possible. For every $10
spent at Coles you will receive one voucher. The more
vouchers the school receives the more sporting
equipment we can purchase. The School's Voucher
Collection Box will be at the front office soon. Students
can also give their vouchers to their class teacher. At
Colyton Public we are always exploring ways to keep
our students fit and healthy, one more way we can do
this is by providing our school with quality sporting
equipment. So let’s all dig in, give 100%, reach out for
the try line and shoot some goals together!
