Thank you for considering J.Thom as a resource for your project. In order for us to best assist you it is important for us to understand your project by having you gather some basic measurements of your space. To help guide you through the process of obtaining these basic measurements yourself we provide this Home Survey Workbook. The kit consists of
• A 5 Step Measurement Tutorial that shows how to correct-‐ly measure the different parts of a kitchen.
• A Project Measurement Summary Worksheet with spaces for you to record your measurements
• Graph Paper for you to draw a basic layout of the existing
space. Upon completion of the Home Survey Workbook you may bring the hardcopy booklet in or email the worksheet and graph paper to our Client Services Department at orders@j-‐thom.com.
Step 1
Take Dimensions for Wall, Soffit and Crown Molding
To do this be sure to measure every wall from side to side and notate your wall widths on the graph paper provided. Also, assign a wall number to each wall on the graph paper Drawing that will correspond with the worksheet. Next, measure the ceiling height and write it below the wall measurements on the Project Measurement Summary Worksheet. If your wall has soffits please check the box to notate whether your cabinets will extend to the soffits. Next you will need to determine if your cabinets will include molding. Please answer “yes” or “no” on your Project Measurement Summary Worksheet
Step 2
Measure Window Openings It is important that when measuring your windows your height and width measurements include trim. We need to know what the windowsill width and the window or sill distance is from the floor. Record your window measurements on the Project Measurement Summary Worksheet. On your Floor Plan Grid, please specify: the opening width and distance from the wall that you are measuring from.
Step 3 Measure Door Openings When measuring doors please include the trim in your measure-ments. On your floor plan grid drawing, please specify: the opening width and distance from the wall you are measuring from. Record the door/ width and height on the Project Summary worksheet.
Step 4 Measuring Utilities You will need to determine and record any utility connections that will affect the placement of your new cabinets. Go through your project area and record any utility connections such as water pipes (plumbing), elec-trical outlets, gas connections and air vents (HVAC). For these items, you will need to measure and rec-ord the center line to right wall, center line to left wall and the center line from the floor.
Step 5 Measuring Appliances With this step you will need to determine the dimensions of your new or existing kitchen appliances. This involves measuring and recording; the make and model of each appliance, height, width, depth and additional information on the Project Measurement Summary Worksheet. Addition-ally you will note the distance from the wall on the Project Summary and draw a square representing the appliance on the floor plan grid.
