Celio Kindergarten
The Celio Kindergarten site is located in close relation to the Colosseum in Rome Italy. The triangular site is situated in the urbanfabric surrounded by mixed program including a hospital and monastery. The design utilizes the slight grade change to createprivacy and protection for the children in the Montessori kindergarten. The classrooms are situated around the protected outdoorspace that is south facing harnessing the most sunlight through out the day. Environmental considerations were implementedin each phase of design and material choice to ensure an eco- friendly establishment. The design includes a green roof, watercollection, biological filtration system, photovoltiac panels, and natural li ghtening.

New diagraming techniques were implemented using paper, ribbon, and tissue tocreate site diagrams. The geometric fabric of the surrounding city is shown with the
different types of people populating the site including tourists from the Colosseum (in
orange) and community members (in green).
The building location on the site
was chosen for souther orientationof classrooms to achieve optimal
light collection.
The building surrounding the
site were very unique with amilitary hospital on the east

Environmental DesignsThe kindergarten uses multiple systems to be as environmentally conscious aspossible. The walkway contains biological ltrated ponds as well as in the chil-drens garden. The rain collection can be stored and used to water the gardensand landscape. The photovoltiac panels harvest energy from the sun to reduce theuse of grid power being used as well as shades the large windows from direct sun-light. The orientation to the south insures use of day-lighting and provides interiorspaces with light from clerestory windows.

VolumeAnAlysisofthe GreenwAy
Throughout history the density of infrastructure around the Greenway haschanged into what we recognize today. Contributions to the volume uctuationin the area are taller buildings being constructed, population trend risingand falling, and the implementation of trafc infrastructure. The Greenwayis populated by the community that surrounds it today including the NorthEnd, the Wharf District, Dewey Square, and China Town. The amount ofpeople utilizing the Greenway uctuates between different parcels as wellas different times of the day. Focusing on Dewey Square there is a trend
of heavy use during mid-day. The volume of people occupying the adjacentbuildings changes in relation to the Greenway becoming activated.
The diagram above shows thevolume of people that occupyeach building. The darkestshaded buildings have the mostpeople and the lightest have theleast. The lines display commonpaths that people take throughout different times of the day.The trend observed is that mostpeople use the sidewalks to travel
directly to work in the morning, usethe paths through the Greenwayat midday, and more randomroutes after work.

Boston south End MiddlE school
The city seeks proposals for a middle school to replace the existingoutdated elementary school on the site. On the master plan for thecurrent site includes proposed buildings that can be developed inthe future for non-school uses. The school design is submerged in the
community which has a residential area to the west and public buildings to theeast. Curb modications have been made for prime access with a bus drop offlocation as well as walk ways through the site. Ample gathering spaces formedaround the building utilize open land for use by the school as well as communitymembers. The courtyard design emphasizes natural light and connection with theoutdoors. The courtyard space is an inhabitable controlled outdoor space brought intothe boundaries of the school walls for access by students and faculty.

Circulation Classroom Space Fenestration Storage
This portion of the school project focuses on the scaleof the students and teachers. The classroom design
ts into the scheme of the school design with one sideof each classroom connecting to the interior circulationarea and one side facing an exterior space. Thegrouping of 2 classrooms in plan are used in a linearcorridor which is on the second and third oor ofthe school. The classroom wings designed in twoopposing L forms are separated by grade with specialtyclassrooms on the corners. The classroom investigationshows the layering of zones from the public space of
the corridor through the semi-private spaces of theclassroom and then back out to exterior space.
