Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance ProgramCommander’s Fact Sheet
The Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) delivers transition services that ensure all eligible transitioning Soldiers have the training and counseling necessary to be successful as a civilian. SFL-TAP Centers hold enhanced hiring events and other opportunities to meet with prospective employers and connect
to civilian opportunities.Commander’s Program: The unit Commander ensures all transitioning Soldiers use SFL-TAP services IAW AR 600-81. Commanders support a Soldier’s transition and encourage them to attend additive classes and events
to support their transition goals.
The SFL-TAP Virtual Center (VC) provides access to required courses,
counselors, transition materials, resume resources, and seminars.
The Virtual Center and call line are open 24/7, excluding New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The VC is beneficial for deployed and remote Soldiers, and is available online and at
1-800-325-4715.
The Career Skills Program (CSP)provides Soldiers with the opportunity
to participate in apprenticeships, on-the-job training, internships, and employment skills training. For more information, visit https://home.army.

There are four Career Tracks offered, and each track takes two
days. The tracks are Education, Employment, Entrepreneur, and Vocational. If required, the class
and applicable CRS must be completed NLT 3 months prior to
transition.

• Soldiers who are identified as rapid transition must begin SFL-TAP immediately
• Soldiers being separated for disability should begin at MEB referral
• Retirees can start 24 months prior to retirement• Soldiers being separated for program shaping or
QMP are notified to start SFL-TAP once selected and typically have 7 months
* Recommended transition timeline to receive maximum benefit from program.
