Jai Jinendra, In May 1981, we embarked on an ambitious mission to create an organization that would preserve Jain values and heritage in North America. JAINA envisioned establishing strong networks between Jain and non-Jain communities to sustain the Jain way of life for generations to come. Over the past three decades, JAINA has accomplished this and much more. We hold biennial conventions, which bring 3,500 to 5,000 Jains together on a regular basis. We launched Young Jains of America (YJA) and Young Jain professionals (YJP) that are making a difference in hundreds and thousands of youths and young adults. Using JAINA’s 30+ committees as portals, our professional volunteers are performing various sevas from providing better education to feeding those that are hungry and building homes for homeless. We provided resources to disaster struck areas in India, Bangladesh, Burma, Africa, and more. Since our inception, JAINA has actively endorsed many relief efforts in North America. We are proud to be recognized as our community’s voice on Jain views to USAID and UN committees on economic and social developments. Today, JAINA has become the hallmark of Jain organizations for others to emulate. The key to our success is attributed to support from sponsors and professional volunteers. We are organizing events in 40+ US states, at the White House in Washington DC, and with the United Nations, to express the Jain values of compassion, love, and peace for all. As we progress forward we want to overcome one of our challenges which is the centralization of our operations. Currently, each committee, project, and convention has to compete with each other for resources. We want to transition our process from competitiveness to a centralized model of Fund Raising based on projected budget activities. We believe that this effort will result in improved efficiency, productivity, increased accountability, and transparency. Undoubtedly, this brochure and JAINA’s accomplishments will inspire you. We request that you partner with JAINA in a shared vision through your charitable donations and volunteer service. We look forward to your support! Sincerely, On Behalf of JAINA and JAINA Fund Raising Committee
Dipak Doshi Dr. Sushil Jain JAINA Treasurer JAINA President
“Our growth consists not merely in an increase of ideas but also in capacity to feel in a million and one ways.”
Together
We have accomplished a great deal
Representing 67 Jain Centers and over 160,000 Jains!
JAINA’s vision is to be “the hub”
that provides community support, publishes educational materials about Jain values and practices, launches international aid projects, and establishes the Jain community as a powerful force with global impact. We are beginning to achieve this in hundreds of exciting ways including disaster relief initiatives, academic scholarships, and leadership summits. In order to increase communication and collaboration between our organizations and projects, nationally and globally, we have embarked on the creation of a robust infrastructure and documented process flows for our operations.
The Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA) is comprised of 67 Jain Centers in North America, representing over 160,000 people. We have a deep history of success in investing in community efforts here and abroad that spans the past 30 years. Our philanthropists have already invested millions in support of hundreds of programs, benefitting thousands of people.
To promote religious and educational activities related to Jainism and to promote the study and understanding of Jain religion on a non-sectarian basis. To provide and promote academic and cultural interchanges and cooperation among Jains in North America, India and other countries. To assist and to promote charitable community service in North America, India, and other countries. To promote tenets of Jain religion.
OUR MISSION
An Introduction to JAINA
1
Let us Transform JAINA’s Vision into Action
Let us work together in a most collaborative manner possible to influence our people worldwide and
make in impact in shaping the lives of our future generation. We will create new and innovative educational tools for our youth and young adults. We will provide more academic (merit and need-based) scholarships. Let us launch more national as well as international aids. Let us make a global impact through ways and means such as disaster relief initiatives and leadership summits. We can achieve all of these in hundreds of exciting ways.
The vision we share as part of JAINA has four objectives, and we ask you to join our mission.
1. We EVOLVE and promote Jain practices by adapting a Jain Way of Life in North America, and specifically for
those making the transition to the US and for the youth in the 21st century.
2. We EDUCATE Jains and non-Jains to create a strong, united, and vibrant Jain community by promoting the
study and understanding of the principles and values of Jainism on a non-sectarian basis.
3. We EXPAND awareness of Jainism and strive to make global impact through strategic partnerships for
academic and cultural exchanges nationally and in the global world with focused efforts across North America, in India, and in Rest of the World.
4. We work to ENERGIZE our organization by mobilizing our community to evoke social change through the
consistent creation of new tools and resources.
Over the past 30 years, we have accomplished a great deal. We have established countless events (local and
national) to bring Jains together in meaningful ways. We host biennial conventions that attract 3,500 to
5,000 attendees with more than 150 sessions and 80 speakers from around the world who speak on topics such as ecology, activism, and the practice of Jain values in all areas of life. Furthermore, JAINA has developed a number
of projects and many initiatives to support people in need. From service trips to India to medical missions to Haiti, we constantly look for ways to express our Jain values of service and compassion.
