Slide 3
What is it? Why was it established? The Tea Act was established
in 1773 in an attempt to rescue the East India Company. The Tea Act
was established to try to rescue the British East India Company by
reducing the cost of British tea. This company was a huge
moneymaker for Great Britain, but the American boycotts had badly
damaged the business. Lord North, who established this act, thought
that he could convince Americans to buy the taxed tea by making it
so cheap.
Slide 4
How Did the Colonists React? The colonists were outraged
because they saw the Tea Act as another attempt to tax them without
their consent. They reacted with what is known as the Boston Tea
Party. This took place on December 16, 1773 and was performed by
the Sons of Liberty, who dressed as Mohawk Indians.
Slide 5
Fun Facts The British government made a loan of 1.4 million to
the East India company to allow the ship tea directly to America.
The supplier of tea from the Boston Tea Party, Davison, Newman
& Co., still operates today. It actually markets a Boston
Harbour Tea brand.

Quotes Resolved, that whoever shall aid or abet, or in any
manner assist, in the introduction of tea from any place
whatsoever, into this colony, while it is subject, by a British Act
of Parliament, to the payment of a duty, for the purpose of raising
a revenue in America, he shall be deemed an enemy to the liberties
of America. The Association of the Sons of Liberty of New York I
dont want tea, I want justice. Ally Carter
