It’s Much More Than Just A Horse Show!
The National Reining Breeders Classic will return to Texas in 2013 for the 16th anniversary of the prestigious event.
During the seven-day event, reiners from all across the globe compete for their share of the over $1.4 million
record-breaking payout!
This prominent event will be held April 15-21 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, just west of Houston. As in the past, the NRBC is expected to attract contestants, owners and spectators from all over the nation and world; as well as local
equine enthusiasts and targeted media.
The 2013 NRBC Show features seven days of reining competition, plus a trade show area for display and sampling. There also are a variety of hospitality venues and social events to entertain clients and guests. Upon arrival, attendees are immersed in an enjoyable, laid-back atmosphere. This aspect is part of what makes the NRBC
so unique and keeps people coming back year after year.
With plenty of in-arena opportunities to school horses, exhibitors don’t have to stay up all night long to make the final tune-ups on their mount. That makes more time for fun, all of which is provided by the NRBC – from Reiner’s Golf to NRBC Texas
Hold’em fun events and parties can be found everyday at the NRBC. Whether it’s a delicious cup of coffee at the “Life is Good”
Coffee Shop, to the sumptuous food at the draw and victory parties, there are a million ways to enjoy quality time with friends old and new. It’s all part of the NRBC experience, and each year
there’s something special to enjoy!
Because of its large purse, beautiful awards and unique atmosphere, the NRBC attracts a broad cross-section of the
equine media world and is featured in countless magazines and newspapers around the world.
Reining competitions are thrilling events for spectators.
They include multiple divisions to enable riders at all levels and horses at various stages of skill
to participate, learn and improve as they master the intricacies
of one of the most exciting equine sports ever. The NRBC show includes classes for world class reiners as well as kids and
entry-level contestants.
Open Classic Competition will feature OVER 200 riders in Open, Intermediate Open,
Limited Open and Level 1 Open competition.
The NRBC also showcases a large slate of NRHA ancillary
events to help exhibitors qualify for NRHA year-end awards.
From the $25,000 Added Open reining to the Short Stirrup class for reiners age 10 and
under, everyone gets the chance to compete at the NRBC.
Additionally, AQHA-approved classes are held to help riders qualify for the AQHA World
Championship Show, and USA Reining and USEF & FEI
classes round out the picture.
Everybody is Somebody at the NRBC!

What is the National Reining Breeders Classic?
The National Reining Breeders Classic is, quite simply, the most successful show and stallion incentive program in performance
horse history. Enrolled foals from subscribed stallions are eligible to compete for big money as 4-, 5- and 6-year olds, and when re-
enrolled in the Classic Challenge program, horses age 7 and up can compete in the newly added Classic Challenge events.
The program was created in the fall of 1997 when a group of reining breeders created a stallion incentive program named the National Reining Breeders Cup. The entity’s first goal was an enrollment of 100 stallions, a number that was quickly surpassed. The list of
sires enrolled soon read like a Who’s Who of the reining industry. Currently there are over 200 stallions enrolled in the NRBC.
Foal enrollments followed suit, and the enrollment numbers have spiked steadily upward each year, with over 28,000 total foals
enrolled. Now with the re-enrollment of horses, at age 7, into the Classic Challenge Program, numbers continue to sky-rocket.
The first show, held at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, in 1998, was an instant classic, setting the stage for the name change later that year to National Reining Breeders Classic.
The show was held at the Lazy E venue for the first three years, and then moved to its current location at the Great Southwest
Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas.
In the beginning, the show was reserved for 4- and 5-year-old reining horses, but later it was expanded to include horses age 4
through 6. Then, in 2011 the new Classic Challenge was added to include horses age 7 and up. The program and show continues to grow and continues to offer next exciting options
for exhibitors and owners.
The NRBC is one of the most lucrative venues in the world to show reining horses, with payouts of over $1 million each year
since 2005 and new record numbers set each year.
Horse show classes that take place at the NRBC are sanctioned by the National Reining Horse Association and earnings from
the NRBC count toward NRHA Lifetime Earnings records. Additionally, each year the NRBC hosts a United States
Equestrian Federation qualifying event, and AQHA classes and USA Reining classes round out the picture of a show
that offers something for every rider.
In 2008, the NRBC Non Pro Classic had the largest Aged Event Non Pro class in NRHA history.*
*Unofficially
100% of each year’s foal enrollment dollars goes to added
money of the show four years later. In other words, the 2013 show added money comes from the foals that were enrolled in
2009. The 2013 foal money will be used for the 2017 event.
NRBC Foal Enrollments total over 28,000!

Stallion owners pay an annual enrollment fee of $1,250 due on February 1 of each year and they assist in the promotion of the NRBC by informing mare owners about the NRBC, using its logo in their advertising, distributing NRBC information to mare owners, and mailing NRBC nomination forms to the owners of each live foal at the time they provide a Breeders Certificate.
Stallions are promoted by the NRBC through listings on www.nrbc.com, regular advertising, press releases, brochures and materials distributed at major events, as well as in the annual Show Program, the annual Newsletter and the annual Yearbook. Plus, each year, the NRBC creates a commemorative/promotional video that is sent to each stallion owner.
For more information on enrolling a stallion, please contact the NRBC office at 580-759-3939, or go to www.nrbc.com.

The Impact of the NRBCHorses are BIG Business
A recent study by Deloitte Consulting, LLC reported the impact the equine market has on today’s economy. Horses are big business with about 4.6 million people having some sort of involvement in the horse industry,
whether it is as an owner, employee, service provider or volunteer.
Number of horse owners 2,000,000Number of owners involved in breeding 238,000Number involved in competition 481,000Number involved in other activities 1,100,000Number of service providers 119,000Number of full- and part-time employees 702,000Number of family members and volunteers 2,000,000
In America, 1 out of every 63 Americans is involved with horses. The Texas horse industry alone produces goods and services valued at
$3 billion dollars ($3,000,000,000).
When the multiplier effect of spending by industry suppliers and employees is taken into account, the national industry has a
$5.2 billion ($5,200,000,000) impact on the Texas economy. If off-site spending of spectators was also taken into account,
it would result in an even higher figure.
There are 455,600 Texans involved in the industry as horse owners, service providers, employees and volunteers. Even more participate as spectators.
The Texas horse industry directly provides 32,200 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs. Spending by suppliers and employees (in Texas and
other states) generates additional jobs in Texas for a total employment impact of 96,300.
There are 979,000 horses in Texas, over 60 percent of which are involved in showing and recreation.
Besides exposure at the show and on the web site at www.nrbc.com, there are important exposure

40 National Reining Breeders Classic 2011 Yearbook
SURPASS® To Host 2011 NRBC Open Draw Party! The National Reining Breeders Classic is known for first class
reining competition, million dollar payouts, and an ambiance that is fitting for the world’s largest added-money reining event. The event caters to its contestants, and that hospitality is evident during the Classic Draw Parties.
The draw parties are a true celebration of the finalist’s achieve-ment, and every effort is made to ensure that everyone has a great time. Contestants and fans are treated to an array of food and drink, and the excitement reaches its peak when the actual draw begins.
One-by-one, each finalist is called to the front of the room, where an array of blue-crystal wine glasses are displayed. Each final-ist gets to choose their commemorative finals wine glass, and their draw position is found on the bottom of the glass.
Savannah Howell, NRBC Sponsor Coordinator, announced in October, 2010, that SURPASS®, a product of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., has come on board as the sponsor of the Open Draw Party at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21. “The Draw Party gives our contestants a chance to visit with SURPASS® representatives and learn more about their product. Because of the generous sponsorship from SURPASS®, the Open Finals Draw Party is sure to be one of the most fun and exciting events of the NRBC.”
Erica Bord, Boehringer Ingelheim Brand Manager, noted, “We’re excited to have the opportunity to sponsor the NRBC and the Open Draw Party. SURPASS® is used by many top reining horse trainers and owners, and we are thrilled to support the NRBC, which is one of the most respected reining events in the country. We look forward to visiting with anyone who might have questions about our products during the Draw Party.”
SURPASS® (1% diclofenac sodium) topical cream, with
WISDOMTM liposo-mal technology, keeps medicine where it’s needed, effectively targeting the patient’s pain and inflammation like an injection, but without the needle. So you treat only the parts that need treatment in small, targeted doses.
SURPASS is the only FDA-approved veterinary use of diclof-enac, a potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. But that’s just the beginning. Every aspect of SURPASS is designed to put the horse owner’s mind at ease, while comforting their horse. In a recent survey1, 68% of horse owners and trainers cited concern with gastric ulcers and 38% reported a similar concern of renal/kidney failure. However, SURPASS offers a solution that is trustworthy and easy to manage in a unique topical cream. And, because it’s a Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica product, it is sold only thru veterinarians, who are the vital link to proper diagnosis and therapeutic options for the horse’s condition.
Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., is a premier manu-facturer of equine vaccines and pharmaceuticals. The Boehringer Ingelheim commitment is to the health and well-being of horse populations around the world. Boehringer Ingelheim provides innovative products such as SURPASS®, Hyvisc®, Calvenza™ - 03 vaccines, and Ventipulmin® Syrup. Boehringer Ingelheim equine products are designed, manufactured, and marketed through veteri-narians to meet the needs of the equine industry. To learn more visit the website at www.bi-vetmedica.com.
