Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter, which is slightly shorter than usual due to an early finish on Thursday and an inset day on Friday.

Last week we held our Year 7 information evening for parents and carers and Mrs Galletly informed me that it was one of the best supported events of this type that we have held. This is great news and can only bode well for the futures of all of our Year 7 students. Your support is vital and we very much appreciate it. We also realise that the move from primary to secondary can be daunting, for students and parents, so hopefully this event provided you with plenty of information about working with us to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Our annual French trip will be launching shortly and letters will be sent out to parents for this three-day tour in June 2018. The visit is open to all students in Year 7 and will enable them to practice the French they have learnt during the year. Children have the opportunity to experience different aspects of French culture which includes making croissants at a bakery, visiting Wellington Quarry and a typi-cal French market.

Another fantastic opportunity for students is being offered through the Bookbuzz reading scheme. Children can buy a book at a cost of £3. This is a great saving and we would encourage you to take advantage of this if you can as it is so important that our children read as much as possible. Titles can be viewed on www.booktrust.org.uk and payments can be made to the school library by October 4th 2017.

A reminder that it is our Year 6 open evening on Thursday from 5pm to 8pm. This is an opportunity for prospective parents, carers and pupils to find out more about our wonderful school so please let any-one know who you think may be interested. I will be delivering an address at 5.15pm and 6.45pm and visitors will have the opportunity to visit different departments and talk to our prefects and staff. We hope to see as many people there as possible. We will also be holding tours for Year 6 on the morn-ings of October 11th and 17th. School will close early, at 1.10pm, on Thursday (September 28th) and the following day, September 29th, is an inset day.

Enjoy the rest of your week,

EARRINGSAt the start of this Academic year, all students were given an expectations talk, about Health and Safety, kit and behaviour within PE. It is now a continual battle for all jewellery to be removed dur-ing lessons. It is vitally important we gain the support from parents and guardians, that earrings are removed for PE. We refer to the Safe Practices document for PE, that no jewellery is worn for sporting activities. It is for the safety of students that earrings are removed for lessons, to prevent injury to themselves or others around them. We ask from all PE staff, that if students are having new piercings that it is done at the start of the summer holidays, to allow any piercings to heal in time for the new academic year. We will expect earrings from now, to be removed for all practical lessons. If any stu-dent is struggling with this, please feel free to approach any member of the PE department and we
