Rustrol®
’s solid-state Cathodic Isolator®
offers the safest electrical isolationfor efficient cathodic protection.
The uniquely designed Cathodic Isolator®
developed by Rustrol® Systems, effectively confines the current neededfor cathodic protection, while providing asafe grounding path during all types ofelectrical disturbances.
PROVEN CATHODIC PROTECTION.
Cathodic protection, proven by decadesof service in a variety of applications, prevents corrosion of buried orsubmerged metallic structures.
Cathodic protection is most efficientlyand uniformly applied when the primarystructure is electrically isolated — i.e., allmetallic/electrical contacts with foreignmetallic structures are eliminated.
Electrical isolation provides three majorbenefits:
Restriction of the required protectivecurrent to the surface of the primarystructure to produce a uniformpolarized level of protection
 Minimization of stray DC currentinterference
Prevention of galvanic currentbetween metallic structures.
SAFE CATHODIC ISOLATION.
Cathodic isolation is a superior form ofelectrical isolation. Cathodic isolationmaintains stringent electrical groundingrequirements and confines the protectivecurrent at the surface of the primarystructure. The result is highly effective, uniform protection against corrosion.
The Rustrol® Cathodic Isolator® meetssafety standards for effective groundingwithin the National Electrical Code, andconforms to the need for safe operatingpractices accepted worldwide, i.e., notto exceed the 15 volt rms (caution)potential most often stipulated by design.
The Cathodic Isolator® provides all of theadvantages of electrical isolationnecessary for Cathodic Protection byblocking the protective current at theelectrical isolating device — such asacross a pipeline isolating flange. Assoon as the potential across the isolatingflange exceeds the pre-set voltagethreshold, the Rustrol® Cathodic Isolator®
responds instantly.
VERSATILE PROTECTION
The Cathodic Isolator® protectspersonnel and equipment during all typesof electrical disturbances by providing aneffective grounding path which instantlyconducts:
 AC fault currents
 Lightning
 AC induction
 Power switching surge currents.
The Cathodic Isolator® is indispensablefor safe electrical isolation — to assureunprecedented protection of yourpersonnel and equipment.

RUSTROL®’S PROVEN QUALITYASSURES RELIABLE OPERATION.
Unique developments in electroniccircuitry are incorporated in the Rustrol®
solid-state Cathodic Isolator® to assureacute sensitivity; instant response; andfail-safe, maintenance-free operation in anon-electrolytic environment.
The Cathodic Isolator® and associatedhardware feature the most advanced andreliable components now available. Eachcritical component is precisely machinedand carefully assembled to meetRustrol®’s exceptionally stringent qualityassurance standards. The easy-to-mount standard NEMA 4 enclosuresimplifies installation.
Research and development models haveundergone thorough acceptance-testingby independent high-current test facilitiesand have been fully approved (test dataavailable upon request).
Rustrol®’s experienced technical staffprovides knowledgeable productsupport. Engineering services to designand commission a system for yourspecial applications are available fromour professional consultants uponrequest.
APPLICATIONS FORCOST-EFFECTIVE OPERATION.
Along with performing a key role in safeand effective corrosion control, theRustrol® Cathodic Isolator® also serves toreduce both the capital and maintenancecosts of cathodic protection systems.
Cost-effective applications include: AC fault-current protection acrossisolating flanges and other devices mitigation of induced AC on pipelines
and other structures lightningprotection for equipment, includingcathodic-protection rectifier systems de-coupling of the primary structure(e.g., fueling facility, pipe-type cablesystems, etc.) from contact with theelectrical utilities grounding network.
And these are just a few typicalapplications for the Rustrol® CathodicIsolator®. Other possibilities are limitedonly by one’s imagination.
