iPhone with Verizon : The Dream Phone
Verizon iPhone? Somewhere in the mid of July ‘11 iPhone will be releasing its
next generation multipurpose mobile, called iPhone 4G by Apple lovers
around the world. A debate on the possible improvement, that apple will be
making, has already been started. Verizon Communications, as a new carrier
is one of iPhone is centre of apple lover’s debate. Verizon iPhone with its
CDMA service may make CDMA users around the world very happy. Apple
will have their contract finished with AT & T this year, which may be a relief
to most of the iPhone users for the pitiful service from AT & T.
Among all other hardware improvements, Apple will be introducing 4G
service in their iPhone to give users the best experience, resulting technical
changes in the specifications according to that. For video calling, one 1.3 MP
camera on the Front is likely to be placed. Another 5 MP camera on the rear,
with ability to shoot HD clarity Video, is predicted to be seen for using it as
iPhone HD.
There may be several feature upgrades like Apple may be testing 64 GB
Flash NAND Memory Module which was invented by Toshiba and fastest
mobile memory architecture till date. Other few improvements which apple
fans are strongly suggesting to be implemented in the upcoming Verizon
iPhone or iPhone 4G are the following:
• LED Flash

• Unibody Metal case
• Removable Battery
• Front camera for iChat
• Advanced GPS Navigation System, True GPS
• 3.5 mm Headphone Jack
• Built in HD Video Recording & Editing Application
• Face recognition system
Apart from Hardware improvements, apple will be bringing Enhanced Sense
UI for easier navigation, bring contact into home screen and other smaller
updates. Apple will be using better processor like Dual Core and faster ram
for feature rich application and multitasking capability. The features which
were lacking in previous generations of iPhone like cut-copy-paste feature or
like mms facility will likely to be added in this next generation of iPhone. The
Sense UI of Apple which is some leaps ahead that other mobile phones of
this category possibly be getting more sophisticated details, like Voice
Command, video recording and editing etc features. The flexibility of
Bluetooth in iPhone 3G has something disturbing, encouraging the possibility
of new updated features like separate Bluetooth profile, wireless music
streaming via A2DP, Bluetooth tethering etc to be added in the upcoming
iPhone 4G.
While Apple is not making any official announcements about Verizon iPhone
release date, they may be field testing some of the missing features in
iPhone 3G which are going to be added in the iPhone 4G like

there is any official announcement on the price, feature or release date of
the most awaited phone of the year.
When apple first released their iPhone there was a huge hype for that phone,
and while nobody is predicting anything like that will happen again, apple
lovers around the world have already started making websites, blogs, and
fan pages for the next release. Steve Jobs is like a magician in the world of
technology, making excellent innovative ideas in their gadgets, increasing
expectation from users for any next release from Apple. iPad will be
releasing in the upcoming April, along with predicted announcement of
iPhone 4G.
So while all the Apple fans are eagerly waiting for it, we discussed what

The New Partner
The next step, the iPhone, remains shrouded in secrecy, and neither
company will discuss it. But people familiar with its development say it is a
fait accompli. Verizon, sources say, will sell its own version of the iPhone 4,
which will work on Verizon’s CDMA-based 3G network. Unfortunately for
globe trotters, the first version of the phone likely won’t be built to work
outside the U.S. — it probably won’t carry a special chip that can turn it into
a “world phone.”
- Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg.
Verizon executives say they passed on an opportunity to be the exclusive
network for the phone back in 2005 largely because they felt that Apple and
CEO Steve Jobs wanted too much control over how and where the devices
would be sold -- and too big a cut of the monthly service fees. Verizon didn't
want to give up maintenance of its devices or its relationship with its
customers, and it sought to distribute the phone through multiple retail
partners. So Apple went with AT&T, of course, and conversations between
Apple and Verizon about a phone essentially ceased for two years.
Yet Apple also had concerns. The company "was wary of building a device for
Verizon's CDMA network because it didn't use technology that allowed a
phone to seamlessly operate around the world, as AT&T's network does,"
Fortune reports that Verizon President and CEO Lowell McAdam told Steve
Jobs in December 2007 that despite being unable to reach an agreement
before, it was worth reconsidering their arrangement. McAdam told Fortune
that Jobs answered, "Yeah, you're probably right. We have missed
something."

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Apple has plans to
produce a version of the iPhone that will be compatible with the Verizon
network later this year. This would enable Verizon to sell the smartphone in
early 2011. Jobs noted during a press conference held earlier this year in
response to the "antennagate" uproar that Apple had Verizon cell sites on its
campus, hinting that the company may be testing the iPhone on Verizon's
network.
When Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest mobile-phone operator, recently
agreed to sell Apple's iPad tablet bundled with a MiFi card that works on
Verizon's network, tech analysts and media were abuzz with speculation that
the real news—the announcement of the much-anticipated Verizon iPhone—
was in the offing. "Apple and Verizon Wireless finally are getting it on. But
are there bigger plans in the works?" tech site Appolicious asked after the
companies announced their iPad pact.

Tech Experts reviews
"When Apple and Verizon announced that they were going to carry the iPad
… that's a big step," Wu said. "And what's most interesting about that is that
Verizon got equal billing [with] AT&T, meaning they are allowed to sell it on
the same day. That's just remarkable for a brand-new partner."
Verizon's recent earnings also suggest that it might finally need the iPhone,
Wu said. Verizon added 997,000 wireless customers in the third quarter
compared to AT&T's 2.6 million. Verizon reported revenue of $26.5 billion,
down 2.9 percent from the same time period last year, while AT&T reported
revenue of $31.6 billion, a 2.8 percent increase.
"Verizon's growth is actually starting to slow down; it's not as strong as it
used to be," Wu said. "AT&T right now is clearly stronger than Verizon."Wu
said he's heard that one possible sticking point between Apple and Verizon is
the high subsidy it will have to pay to get the iPhone. AT&T puts a lot of
money into the iPhone, much more than Verizon puts into Android or
BlackBerry, Wu said.Verizon's third-quarter results, however, "could be the
trigger point" where Verizon relents and agrees to pay the bigger subsidy to
get the benefits of the iPhone.
Avi Greengart, the research director for consumer devices at Current
Analysis, declined to speculate on whether the release date rumors were
actually true, but did not predict an apocalyptic demise of AT&T should

Verizon get its hands on the coveted smartphone.
"IF Verizon gets an iPhone in January, it will sell a lot of them, mostly to
existing Verizon customers. AT&T will lose some of its most disgruntled
iPhone users but churn overall will settle down after an initial spike, and
most AT&T iPhone users will stick with AT&T," he said in an e-mail.
If anything, a CDMA iPhone will have an adverse impact on leading Android
licensees, particularly Motorola, which has benefited the most from Verizon's
Droid brand, Greengart concluded. Ross Rubin, an analyst with NPD Group,
also thought the Verizon iPad deal is a sign of things to come. "Certainly the
selling of the existing Wi-Fi iPad via Verizon Wireless shows that the two
companies are now starting to work together," he said in an e-mail.
"AT&T has long maintained that the exclusive won't last forever and Apple
must now look to Verizon if it wants to capture higher domestic market
share," Rubin continued. "While Apple has historically introduced new
handsets in the summer, it introduced the first iPhone at a January event
citing the desire to head off those looking at FCC documents and may hold
an event early in the year to announce a successor to the original iPad,
which was launched last January."Michael Gartenberg, a research director
with Gartner Inc., was more philosophical.
"The Verizon iPhone is the latest digital unicorn," he said. "Lots of reasons
why it might or might not happen. As usual, those who know, don't speak
and those who speak?

GSM vs CDMA Debate
There seems to be confusion about GSM versus CDMA: AT&T 3G is based on
UMTS which is a form of CDMA. HSPA+ (T-Mobile) and LTE (AT&T and VZN)
are also forms of CDMA. LTE was designed to be the 4th generation system
that will unify the world's wireless systems. There are a lot of people who
seem to comment that AT&T phones are global, but they all talk about
Europe (where GSM came from). They forget about Latin America, India,
Korea, etc. For you who go to Europe, by all means go with AT&T, but please
do not ignore the rest of the world. You make it sound so simple, but most of
you are only talking about phone calls. That is not what most people want.
The world's wireless systems unification goal needs to be the fastest data
speeds to the phone anywhere in the world with a voice overlay. This allows
the world to make the Internet mobile and treat voice like it is data. LTE does
this. This is why Apple is dancing with Verizon. As the world does does away
with their 1st generation mobile systems (AMPS) so will they do away withtheir 2nd gen (GSM and CDMAOne) and 3rd gen (UMTS and CDMA2000).
Folks who have regressed back to "feature" phones, the market trends are
not with you. Those who use your computers to browse, the trends are not
with you. Even Steve Jobs said the same at this year's All Things Digital. The
computer is going to become a secondary device. This is where the world is
going. I know you all probably live in the U.S., but the world trends are not
with you here. Many countries have already skipped the wired Internet and
went straight to wireless, they are going to skip the computer and go
straight to the phone and the tablet. The U.S. will continue to be behind if it
does not rip out its legacy infrastructure and laws.

Verizon uses CDMA technology developed by Qualcomm, which does not
allow simultaneous voice and data because of the way it breaks up data and
voice. It also has a capped download speed of 3.6 mbps. CDMA is used by
12% of the world, mostly in China, India, and the US (Sprint and Verizon)
AT&T uses GSM which is a technology that 88% of the world has adopted
which means their iPhone works all over the world. GSM technology packets
data and voice which allows simultaneous voice and data. GSM has faster
data speeds as well such as AT&T;s 7.2 mbps download speeds and T-
Mobile;s rumors 14.4 mbps coming soon.
"I currently have an iPhone with AT&T and the most of the features on the
phone I use are fueled by the GSM technology. For example I travel to
London 2-3 times a year and my phone works brilliantly over there. Why
would I want a Verizon iPhone that I couldn't take with me on business?I also
take part in many conference calls sometimes ranging from 1-2 hours.
During these calls I am able to text, view webpages, and answer emails. This
helps me get more work in a day. I would have to sit on the call and do
nothing with a CDMA phone." says a AT&T iPhone user.
Apple's new multitasking software upgrade also is based on GSM. Streaming
a podcast via itunes and send text messages at the same time. Using mobile
navigator while having one of my employees on the phone. I would not be
able to do this on Verizon's network.
Another big issue having with this whole Verizon iPhone is that fact that they
are switching to GSM when they move to 4G. Won't this mean that the phone

will need to have a GSM antenna and a CDMA antenna. That seems like a
battery life headache. AT&T has GSM all the way through. That sounds
better.
Hearing these rumors has shocked me because Apple is all about the user
experience. How will this iPhone be marketed? If you want an iPhone that
does everything buy AT&T's, but if you want an iPhone that is only good for
making calls and slow data speeds buy Verizon's? In the end Verizon will
probably get an iPhone but will their network be able to withstand iPhone
users data consumption?
Verizon and heavily considered moving to AT&T for the iPhone, but chose to
wait for what many considered was inevitable. Unfortunately during the wait
I opted for the Droid as the closest solution to the iPhone. Within three weeks
I put it aside and went back to my decrepit old flip phone. It just does not
compete. It's great for those who are not familiar with the iPhone or iTouch's
interface, but once you are familiar with the way Apple works and love it,
then everything else falls short. Since Verizon would not take it back, due to
how long I had it.
“I will not make the switch because I think from a technology perspective
Verzion is stuck in the stone ages when it comes to the choice of phones andnetwork. Verizon has always been slow in getting the latest and greatest
phones that are out there today. Of course thier network is great, it is based
on the same old technology that has been present for years. Plus people
forget that they are still using Rev A 3G which will not allow you to do voice

and data at the same time. We will see if that will be the case once they cut
over to 4G (LTE).” – Implied by a AT&T user.

Verizon's Current Deal with Apple : iPad
The news that Verizon stores will start selling the iPad is generating a lot of
excitement among people who desperately want an iPhone but don't want to
use AT&T. They are hoping that today’s announcement is a sign that the
iPhone and AT&T are about to end their monogamous relationship.
In the last month, major news organizations have quoted anonymous
sources who say that Apple will release an iPhone on Verizon. Today'sannouncement that the iPad would be sold in Verizon stores is the clearest
sign yet that the rumors are true says Charles Golvin, an analyst at Forrester
Research. "I think this is a harbinger of a deeper relationship between
Verizon and Apple in the relatively near future," says Golvin.
Back when Apple first released the iPhone they had good reasons for
hitching up with AT&T. There are two kinds of cell phone networks — the
one Verizon uses called CDMA is considered to be more reliable in the US.
But, Golvin says Apple wanted to be able to sell the iPhone all over the world
so they went with AT&T's GSM network.
A Verizon MiFi is a credit card-size Wi-Fi-enabling device. Inside its black
case, however, the important parts of the MiFi are comparatively small, and
are on par with the AT&T 3G card inside an iPad. After gutting some parts of the iPad to allow the MiFi device to fit, along with some soldering and
rewiring, the hacker did succeed in making the iPad access the Internet at a
quicker pace. In the process, the iPad lost its GPS and the bass portion of its
sound – not to mention its warranty.

The iPad available on Verizon, is the basic "iPad with Wi-Fi" model you can
buy at any Apple store, Apple online or even Walmart. The difference is
Verizon gives you a bulky MiFi unit to lug around when you want to use
Verizon data, when you could just as simply use any available Wi-Fi hotspot
and leave the bulk at home. You might even have faster data service from a
Wi-Fi hotspot
The so called similar deal that AT&T is the "iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G" model that
has a sim card and UMTS 3G radio built in, as well as Wi-Fi, since all iPads
have Wi-Fi included. There is no bulky MiFi unit to lug around. The Verizon
iPad, isn't really anything special other than the bulky Mifi unit and all the
power adapter cables to keep the MiFi unit powered while you use it. Apple
isn't making any special EV-DO chip iPads specially for Verizon. I suspect if
an iPhone materializes for Verizon, it will be one of those new Camera
enabled iPod Touches with a Verizon MiFi unit to lug around and a special
Verizon VoIP app for the crazed Verizon maniacs to devour.
In a poll that asked 4,040 smartphone users in March how many dropped
calls they had experienced in the past three months, AT&T — the exclusive
U.S. carrier of Apple's iPhone and iPad mobile devices — came in dead last
among the country's four largest carriers. Which could be the benefit of
seeing google, apple and Verizon working together? I think that we are
seeing the best worldwide management team working together. Any result
will be in another great industry transformation

Verizon's Dealling with iPhone
AT&Ts bad rep on the internet is 75% hype. Most of the people that bad
mouth AT&T haven't used their network. Lucky for AT&T, most of their
customers don't read blogs and comments and are blissfully unaware of the
problems they're 'supposed' to be having, but are not. Yes, some current
iPhone users will jump to Verizon, and maybe with good reason, as no carrier
has good coverage everywhere. The millions that do buy a Verizon iPhone
will tell themselves that it was worth the wait and they have it 'so muchbetter' than their AT&T counterparts and they will believe it. Good for Apple,
but what if most of the new Verizon iPhone buyers were formerly Verizon
Android users? Bad for Google, bad for Motorola.
