Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN DEBATE SERIES ON HUMAN RIGHTS
Your institution is hereby invited to participate in a series of debates on issues relating to Human
Rights during the month of November 2014. This series is titled Human Rights in the 21st Century:
Raising Awareness through Debate. This debate series presents participants from your institution
with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge-base and debate competences en route to excelling in
other arenas.
Jamaicans generally have a narrow understanding of what constitutes human rights, why human rights
are important, and how human rights concerns impact governance. The human rights architecture of the
21st century is far more than the right to life. Moreover, a global human rights framework has been
increasingly advanced as a mechanism for understanding and resolving local societal and cultural
tensions, national political issues, and international conflicts. It is therefore important to engage in
robust discussion and debate around national and international issues in the context of human rights.
Recognizing your institutions firm commitment to debating excellence, it would be an honour for us if
you would facilitate the participation of as many of your debaters or students generally. Please confirm
your willingness to be a part of this debate series by contacting Mr. Germaine Barrett at 876-781-0630
or by sending us an email at [email protected] by Tuesday October 28, 2014. Below is the proposed
schedule for this debate series.
