Interviewer: Have you worked with any of the librarians on
campus?
Historian: Oh yes. Because they are trained as librarians they
can think of search terms, or ways of searching. I am not
trained as a librarian, so I don’t. So yes, definitely the
librarians are crucial in the whole research process—both at
[my institution] and wherever I go.
Interviewer: At what point do you talk to the librarians?
Historian: Dead ends.
Interviewer: At dead ends?
Historian: Yes, I share my frustrations with them and ask
them to help me get out of the cul-de-sac.
Don’t wait the last moment:
ask librarians !

Cadmus, EUI Academic
Repository
What is Open Access?
n.1 in Italy: Cadmus EUI Research repository
Open Access Resources at EUI Library
• The European University Institute
became institutional supporting
member of ORCID in November
2017. In August 2018 the EUI
Library integrated ORCID with
Cadmus, the EUI Research
Repository.
• ORCID iD, the Open Researcher
and Contributor ID, is an
alphanumeric number which
uniquely identifies authors in the
academic and scientific publishing
world.
ORCiD: your identity within a global academic community
Illegal Open Access: Alexandra Elbakyan, “Robin Hood of Open Access”
From en.Wikipedia.org (Sept.4, 2017)
“Sci-Hub was founded by Kazakh graduate
student Alexandra Elbakyan in 2011, as a reaction to
the high cost of research papers behind paywalls …
In 2015 academic publisher Elsevier filed a legal
complaint in New York City against Sci-Hub
alleging copyright infringement by Sci-Hub, and the
subsequent lawsuit led to a loss of the original sci-
hub.org domain. … Sci-Hub has been controversial,
lauded by parts of the scientific and academic
communities and condemned by a number of
publishers.”
They say:
“the first pirate website in the world to provide
mass and public access to tens of millions of
research papers. More than 64,500,000 papers
in SCI-HUB. The Sci-Hub project, running
from 5th September 2011, is challenging the
status quo. At the moment, Sci-Hub provides
access to hundreds of thousands research
papers every day, effectively bypassing any
pay walls and restrictions.”
