AN EXAMPLE FOR TEACHERSIn ABC Grammar School, the 7 students of J.S.S 2 class attempted final tests on 4subjects (English, Mathematics, Introtech, Business Studies). Names of the studentsand their respective marks in each subjects are as follows.
Question: Use MS Excel 2007 spreadsheet to:1. Analyze the above information.2. Calculate the total marks for each student.3. Create a formula to check if a student is PROMOTED by scoring the average mark of
200 and above or otherwise FAILED by scoring below the average.4. Check the best subject for each student (through score point)

SPREADSHEET SOLUTION (CONT.)
Calculating the Total Marks
The mathematical SUM function is used in the following formula tocalculate the total marks for each student.
=SUM(B5:E5)
Formula interpretation: Add up all the content of cell B5 to E5.
Calculating the Promotional Status
The logical IF function is used in the following formula to calculate thePromotional status for each student.
=IF(F5=>200 ,PASSED,FAILED)
Formula interpretation : If the content of cell F5 is equal to or greater than200 , show PASSED as a text, otherwise show FAILED as a text.

Calculating the GRADE
The logical IF function is nested in the following formula to calculate theGRADE for each student.
=IF(F5=>300 , EXCELLENT, IF(F 5=>250 , VERY GOOD, IF(F 5=>200,
GOOD, IF(F 5=>0 , POOR))))Formula interpretation: If the content of cell F5 is equal to or greater than300, show EXCELLENT as a text; If the content of cell F5 is equal to orgreater than 200, show VERY GOOD as a text; If the content of cell F5 isequal to or greater than 300, show GOOD as a text; If the content of cell F5is equal to or greater than 200, show POOR as a text.
