Infrared Temperature Sensors

Honeywell’s

Innovative DesignHoneywell’s Infrared Sensors are 2-wire temperature transducers/transmitters for non-contacttemperature measurement. These products represent the latest in innovative technology, integratingexclusive, advanced electronic design with optical and mechanical precision that are the essence ofHoneywell’s infrared products. The design from concept to finish is based on simplicity of installationand maintenance. The sensors, with their matchless array of options and accessories, demonstrateHoneywell’s continuing leadership in temperature measuring technology.

Universal ApplicationCompletely self-contained, the IRFF and IRLS can be used as true 2-wire temperature transducer/transmitters which produce a standard 4-20mA linear output. Powered by its current loop, eachsensor is completely compatible with any existing instrumentation for recording or process control. Arugged, stainless steel housing, miniature size and light weight make the sensors suitable for manyapplications which up to now were the exclusive domain of contact type temperature transmitters, such as thermocouples, resistance thermometers, etc. To insure minimum maintenance and utmostreliability, the sensors have absolutely no moving parts. When contained within its companioncooling jacket and air purge assembly, each sensor can withstand the most punishing conditionsfound in industry. The sensors have universal application in virtually any type of industry. Typicalapplication areas where infrared has successfully been used include: cement, ceramics, chemicals, food, glass, heat treating, metals, paper, plastics, power, printing, petrochemicals, robotics, rubber, semiconductors, textiles, vacuum systems....

IRFF SensorThe IRFF is designed to handle most demanding industrial applications. When powered by an 18 to40 Vdc supply, it provides a 4-20mA linear output for interface with indication and recordinginstrumentation. Its two-wire design simplifies installation, operation and maintenance. Screwterminals allow easy yet secure connection. The IRFF is a fixed optical system. That is, the distancebetween the sensor and the target area determines target size. It is recommended for applicationswhere target size is known and operating distance is relatively constant.

IRLS SensorThe IRLS contains all the features of the IRFF with the addedbenefit of upright through-lens sighting. The IRLS incorporates ahigh quality, high precision variable focus optical system thatallows sharp focussing on the desired focussing knob on the rearpanel of the instrument. The IRLS allows for precision pinpointingof small target areas. The user simply adjusts the instrument untilthe image is clear and the desired target is located within thereticle. The IRLS is available in three distinct versions. The first willmake accurate measurements at distances of 14 inches to infinity, the second has a working range of 6 to 14 inches and the third isdesigned to measure a target at 2 inch distance.

Field InterchangeabilitySuperior design not only insures accuracy and long term reliability,it also insures interchangeability between sensors of the samemodel with ±0.50% accuracy. For especially demandingapplications, the sensors have a digital emissivity control, whichcan be set with a resolution of 0.01. This insures that, should oneof the sensors need to be replaced, the replacement unit can bepreset in every aspect before installation.

Application AssistanceMany years of experience in solving unusual and difficulttemperature measurement and control problems qualify our salesand application engineering staffs to offer solutions to the mostchallenging applications encountered in industry.

Quality AssuranceReliability is never taken for granted at Honeywell. After finalcalibration, every sensor is tested and burned-in for a week andrigorously subjected to a period of thermal cycling and vibrationto verify calibration data.

WarrantyAll sensors are backed by a two-year warranty and Honeywell’sTechnical Assistance Center.
