Assessment at Comper
The aim of Assessment is to build a picture of your child’s development enabling teachers and key workers to plan their next steps in an informed way, identify developmental needs and early intervention where issues arise.
As part of our on-going assessment we keep records of your child’s achievements in our setting, we do this in three ways
1. A learning journey – folder of evidence
2. Target tracker
3. Tapestry
Learning Journey’s at Comper
In your child’s Learning Journey you will find a range of evidence that staff have collected to represent your child’s learning and how he/she is developing .
These could include the following:
• Pictures your child has produced
• Artwork
• Mark making/writing
These can be found in your child’s group base/classroom and are available for you to look through at pick up and drop off times.
We encourage you to look through these with your child and celebrate their achievements.
Target Tracker Alongside the Learning Journey’s we also use a programme called Target Tracker. This is an electronic version of the Early Years Curriculum and enables staff to monitor children’s progress individually and as a group/cohort.
Tapestry
• Is an ‘online’ Learning journey for staff to add observations, photos, media and next steps on your child.
Tapestry allows you to get more involved in your child’s learning • In order to meet your child’s needs and interests in the most effective way we
need you to get involved.
• You will always be the most important influence in your child’s life and because of this we would like you to share your child’s interests and successes with us. This can make a real difference to how we help support his/her learning at Comper.
• You will be able to securely access their observations, photos and media from any device with internet capability at your leisure to look at and comment on details added by your child’s group leader/teacher.
Tapestry How safe is my child’s information: • The information and assessment on your child can only be viewed by you. Your account is set
up by Comper and each user/relative added has an email assigned (if you have not already done so please give a copy of your email to Carole).
• This email we be sent a link to create a password and enable you to have a log on (your email) and password – this is the only way to access your account.
*If you do not have access to an electronic devise with internet capability please speak to your child’s group leader/teacher and we will arrange access for you. Use of photographs and group observations • Tapestry has the function of adding a group observation – this is where staff add an
observation and attach multiple children to it. This will mean that multiple parents will be able to view this observation.
• We have set up our system to ensure that photos and media cannot be downloaded from tapestry, however we are aware that those who are technologically advanced may be able to find a way around this. In the interests of Confidentiality please do not upload any photos or media from tapestry on to social media.
