– This is more common in rural areas, and becoming less common in urban centers

– Indonesian families are close and work to help each other

– Indonesians respect elders, their experience and advice

– They must also care for their parents in old age

Respect Muslim religious conventions

– Although most Indonesians are Muslims, Indonesia is not an Islamic state and allows freedom of worship to all religions

Never touch a person's head, or point with a forefinger, as this is considered impolite

Business relationships must be developed slowly over time

– Indonesians enjoy bargaining and offering concessions too quickly will show you as an amateur

– Avoid disagreement and especially arguments

Demanding a written contract is seen as a lack of trust

– A contract is to be viewed as a guideline rather than a statement of duties and responsibilities
