Presidents Report
What an excellent event last Tuesday night. The venue
looked superb thanks to Megan and Leanne (from the
Beaumaris), guests started arriving from 6.30 and really
got into the fun of the night with the bar doing a roaring
trade. Tony Phillips did a wonderful job as MC and Jon-
athan’s performance really excited the audience. Rich-ard Jones and Ken Mirams looked after the logistics of
getting Jonathan to and from the venue, Louise Sawle
donated a nights’ accommodation and lots of members
donated prizes for Megan and her team of helpers to
distribute.
The Beaumaris also donated the stage, lighting and
sound system so all in all it was a great way to kick off
the fundraising year. There are plenty of photo’s and
Megan’s report later in the bulletin. Thank you to every-one involved in a very successful night
Kerrie Geard, Tony Phillips, Roger Frewen, James Glen-
wright and myself met with the President of the Con-
course Traders Association (CTA) on Wednesday evening.
It was a fruitful meeting which resulted in all the infor-
mation held by the CTA being handed over to the RCOB
team who will now organise and run the Concourse Carni-
vale, the first of which is planned for November 29 of
this year.
There is a lot to do to make this a success. The team
have to put together a financial plan and risk assessment,
arrange permits, grants from Council, flyers, entertain-
ment, liaise with the Traders, find acceptable vendors,
arrange signage and promotional activities and so on.
Members are encouraged to offer suggestions for any
activities that could be included on the night to Kerri and
the team.
All parties want the Canivale to continue to grow each
year as this event provides us with an excellent oppor-

tunity to promote RCOB and the many activities in
which we are involved to the 3193 community as
well as providing exposure to a large number of
local potential members.
I am pleased to advise that District Governor Mervcorrectly solved the puzzle in last week’s newsletter
(The magic number is 4, everything comes back to 4.
Think of any number between 1 and 100. For exam-
ple 1, “1 is 3, 3 is 5, 5 is 4. Everything comes back
to 4). Unfortunately the local Mensa club’s member-
ship list is closed.
We are back to the VGC for the next few weeks
with some great speakers coming up. This week Si-
mon Meens and Stephen Witherow will talk aboutthe Sea Scouts with Richard Shermon in the Chair,
followed by Trevor Allwright on the 15th (talking
about the Concourse Car Show on 24th) and Rebec-
ca Bartlett on the 22nd (Rotary World Health Fellow
applicant).
On August 29, Judi Hall is arranging our first fellow-
ship night for the year at Nello’s Trattoria in Char-
man Road.
See you there.

Fund Raising Report
Our first fundraising event for this year An Evening
with Jonathon Usher was held on Tuesday 30 July
2013.
Supported by ten other Rotary clubs and our own
members and friends, we had a total of 162 guests.
Laughter and fellowship was heard all night as eve-
ryone marvelled at The Amazing Jonathon and en-
joyed good food, wine and excellent company.
Special thanks go to all members and partners that
supplied the gifts for the raffle and prizes for the
balloons. Special mention and thanks to Jeni Beaty
who raided her gift cupboard to the extent of 15
gifts. Also providing above and beyond for the Ro-tary good were Peter Flude and Richard Sherman
both providing Scotch whisky, Kerrie Geard, Phil
Hede and Heather Chisholm all providing home-
made produce galore. Joy Lea, Louise Sawle,
Heather Darcy and Jim and Judy O’Brien also sup-
plied multiples of gifts.
MC Tony Phillips once again charmed audiences with
anecdotes and table quizzes, all themed on magic.
Like the Amazing Jonathon, our profit for this night, after costs was an amazing $ 4,523 Dollars. A
great start to our fundraising year. This result could
not have been achieved had Jonathon not offered
his time and special skills free of charge to our Club.
Thank you to all the team that assisted in this event.
On behalf of the Fund raising team.
Megan Glenwright.
