Improved cookstoves of the Qori Q’oncha programme are constructed from locally available materials: cob structure, ceramic combustionchamberandinsulationmadewithash.

InPeru2,000,000familiescookwithsolidfuelsonopenfiresinsidetheirhomesandinmanycases,withoutventilationexposingpeopletosmoke,dustandtoxicgasesgeneratedbythecombustion.ThisindoorpollutionexplainsthesignificantincidenceofacuterespiratoryandlungdiseasesinAndeanruralfamilies.

Itispossibletoimprovethissituationthroughtheconstructionanduseofimprovedcookstovesthatevacuatethe smoke from the household through a chimney.
