IAEA Technical Meeting on Patient
Radiation Exposure Tracking
Qatar Presentation
Dr. Huda M. Al-Naemi
Tracking radiation dose in HMC
• Recording Patients radiation doses established with
DRL under the IAEA regional project RAS/9/0/65.
• Patient demographic, radiological parameters, and
radiation doses were recorded for CT, General
radiography, Mammography and interventional
Cardiology.
Task 1
Avoidance of radiation in interventional
procedures using x-ray and limiting the
probability of stochastic effects
Task 2
Survey of image Quality and Patient Doses in simple
Radiography Examination. Evaluation of Entrance Skin
Air Kerma (ESAK mGy) for: Chest, Lumbar Spine,
Abdomen, Skull and Pelvis
Task 4
Survey of Mammography practice from the
Optimization of Radiation Protection Viewpoint, and
Optimization in Mammography

What we have in HMC
• Radiology Information System (RIS)
• Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
• Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM)
Future plans
• so that HMC for each patient could recorded a
full dose risk history over time by having dose
tracking smart cards.
