BTS3900E Power Supply Solution
Outdoor scenarios AC 220 V power input
If the backup power supply is not required, you can adopt the outdoor AC surge
protection box + AC module solution. The power supply is inputted to the AC module
through the surge protection box. If the backup power supply is required, you can adopt the APM30/APM30H + DC module
solution. The power supply is inputted to the DC module after being converted into the -48
V power supply by the APM30/APM30H.
DC-48 V power input The backup power supply is not required. Adopt the DC module.

BTS3900E Power Supply Solution
When the DC power supply is used, the DC BTS3900E module supports the cascading of power supply cables. The following points must be pay attention to : When multiple BTS3900E DC modules are cascaded, if a lower-level BTS3900E is
damaged and must be replaced, all the cascaded BTS3900Es must be powered off.
In the AC power supply scenario, the quantity of DC power cables from the power
supply cabinet (such as the APM) to the small BTSs can be reduced. In the DC
power supply scenario, the DCDU and TMC cabinet are not required. When multiple BTS3900Es use independent power supplies, if any BTS3900E is
damaged, you can power off the BTS3900E and then replace it with a new one
without powering off the other BTS3900Es. Therefore, the services of the other
BTS3900Es are not affected. If the major BTS3900E is damaged, the services of
the lower-level BTS3900Es in the CPRI cascading are affected, as in the DC power
supply cascading scenario.

Monitoring port The monitoring port of BTS3900E is “MON” port at the Bottom panel of the module. If PMU, APMI, HPMI, and EMU are configured, they can also provide monitoring
ports. The monitoring ports for the BTS3900E (AC) and the BTS3900E (DC) are of the
same type. The BTS3900E provides one RS485 inputs and four dry contact inputs. The surge protection for the four dry contact inputs are 3000 A in differential mode
and 5000 A in common mode respectively.

BTS3900E Monitoring Solution
Monitoring solution The BTS3900E supports four dry contact and one RS48 ports. One monitoring
cable cannot be directly connected to the RS485 and dry contact port of the
monitored device. Therefore, if you want to monitor the RS485 and dry contact at
the same time, the DDF must be configured. AC 220 V power input
If the AC module is to be adopted, the AC module must support the report function of the
mains power-off alarm. If the power supply system (APM30/H/PS4890) + DC module solution is adopted, the
APMI of the APM30/H and the PMU of the PS4890 use the RS485 monitoring interface of
the BTS3900E.

Functions and Features of the BTS3900E Automatic Configuration/Planning Function Automatic coverage and capacity optimization
Application scenarios of BTS3900E Functions The automatic planning/optimization function and the automatic capacity and
coverage optimization function of the BTS3900E is recommended only in the rural
application scenario. In this scenario, there are few neighboring BTSs or there is no
BTS around the BTS3900E. Therefore, the network structure is simple. The automatic planning/optimization function and the automatic capacity and
coverage optimization function of the BTS3900E are provided in the omni cell with
up to two TRXs in the site. That is, the automatic planning/optimization function is
applicable to the O1 and O2 configuration only.

Functions and Features
The automatic configuration/planning function of the BTS3900E consists of the following stages: automatic discovery, automatic software loading, automatic frequency planning/optimization, and configuration delivery. Automatic discovery stage
The automatic discovery stage is the process in which the BTS3900E is powered on and
then automatically sets up the connection with the BSC.
Automatic software loading stage the BTS3900E automatically detects the new software version during the operation
process and then automatically loads and activates the software without manual
operation.
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. Page 72HUAWEI Confidential
Functions and Features
The automatic configuration/planning function of the BTS3900E consists of the following stages: automatic discovery, automatic software loading, automatic frequency planning/optimization, and configuration delivery. Automatic frequency planning stage
The automatic frequency planning algorithm is implemented by the M2000. the M2000
automatically assigns the frequencies (including the BCCH frequency and TCH
frequency) and BSIC to the BTS3900E. The CGI, RAI, and list of neighboring cells are
not automatically planned. The automatic frequency planning function of the BTS3900E may conflict with the
following functions: Concentric cell (including the CoBCCH), Frequency hopping,
Antenna hopping, Dual-timeslot expanded cell, Dual-band cell. The BTS3900E does not support the automatic planning of the frequency band type.
That is, when configuring the BTS3900E, you must choose the cell type (in which
frequency band: 900/1800/850/1900).
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. Page 73HUAWEI Confidential
Functions and Features
Automatic frequency planning stage During the automatic planning progress of the frequency, if several BTS3900Es under
one BSC initiate the automatic planning request at the same time, the M2000 controls the
request to ensure that only one BTS3900E under a BSC is under processing. That is, the
BTS3900Es under the same BSC are processed one by one. BTS3900Es under different
BSCs can be processed at the same time. The automatic planning/optimization algorithm is implemented by the M2000. On the BSC
or M2000, you can run the related MML commands to configure the switch. After the automatic planning function is enabled, you cannot manually disable and
modified the function during the entire automatic planning process. To enable the automatic planning function, the maintenance personnel must configure the
parameters (such as the BTS name, CGI, network optimization parameters) on the BSC
in advance. (The frequencies and BSIC are automatically configured during the automatic
planning process.) Upon receiving the frequencies and BSIC of the BTS3900E, the BSC delivers all the
configuration data related to the BTS3900E to the BTS3900E.
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. Page 74HUAWEI Confidential
Functions and Features
The automatic configuration/planning function of the BTS3900E consists of the following stages: automatic discovery, automatic software loading, automatic frequency planning/optimization, and configuration delivery. Automatic frequency optimization stage
After the BTS3900E enters the normal working state, the M2000 monitors the working
frequency periodically through the MS measurement report and the uplink interference
band measurement function. By comparing with the configured threshold, the M2000
determines whether the frequency must be replaced.
Configuration delivery stage The configuration delivery stage is the stage in which the configuration takes effect. If the
BTS3900E configuration data is complete (the data configuration is completed in the
automatic planning stage and the cell frequency and BSIC are configured), the BSC
delivers all the data to the BTS3900E.
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. Page 75HUAWEI Confidential
Functions and Features
Automatic coverage and capacity optimization In the beginning stage of the BTS3900E operation, a single TRX is configured with
the transmit power of 30 W. During the BTS3900E operation, the M2000
periodically measures the network traffic. If the M2000 determines that the cell load
exceeds the configured threshold, the M2000 delivers a command that requests the
BTS3900E to add a TRX, which is configured as TCH TRX. The transmit power of
the BCCH is 20 W, and that of the TCH is 10 W. When the BSC determines that the
load difference between the inner coverage and outer coverage exceeds the
configured threshold, the BSC delivers a command to the BTS3900E to modify the
transmit powers of the BCCH and TCH. Then the BTS3900E modifies the transmit
power of the BCCH to 15 W and that of the TCH to 15 W. In this way, the inner
coverage is enlarged and the requirement on capacity is met.
HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. Page 76HUAWEI Confidential
Functions and Features
Automatic coverage and capacity optimization This function solves the coverage and capacity problems that occur when the
service traffic increases slowly, but cannot solve the coverage and capacity
problems that occur when the service traffic suddenly surges. When the service
traffic suddenly surges, you can use the channel all-rate and half-rate conversion to
solve the coverage and capacity problems. After the capacity and coverage automatic optimization algorithm switch is enabled,
if the transmit powers of two TRXs are automatically configured to 20 W and 10 W
respectively, the concentric function is not required. If the configuration is changed from one TRX to two TRXs, the configuration of one
TRX cannot be restored. The transmit powers of the two TRXs are automatically
configured to 20 W and 10 W respectively or 15 W and 15 W respectively based on
the threshold value and actual network conditions.
