Year One: Professional Practice Skills module (incorporating work experience)

It's a way of increasing the credit we give to (learning which takes place on) placements.

It makes the placement route more attractive to students.

It improves students' employability skills. It creates a situation in which students will have to

engage deeply with some subject matter to consolidate their learning in that area.

It is an excellent opportunity to capture and capitalise on 'inspirational learning' (Keith Radley, LTI).

It will give us material we can use for Open Days, Placement Preparation and Promotion, and possibly teaching in the relevant subject areas.

It provides students with a unique group working experience they can talk about enthusiastically at interview.

semester one: case studies: written and oral presentations

semester two multi-media group presentation: 'making a

video'

group work and handling group dynamics communication skills, speaking to camera digital fluency

to meet the learning outcome… work in a group to deliver a multi-media

presentation on a topical real estate problem.

based on criteria… Is the real estate issue well chosen and clearly

defined? Is the presentation effective as a teaching tool? How well has the potential of the media been

exploited?

exercise tighter editorial control

ensure no clashes with other coursework deadlines

alert students to this project whilst they are on placement

time permitting, discuss with your neighbour how you can incorporate any of these ideas into your situation.
