Report from Chairperson Major Strategic Moves of the Association in Past 1 Year 1. On-going liaison with Legislative Councilor Hon. Michael LUK Chung-hung who is convening an alliance of groups
of professionals and service users to seek for an enhancement of the public services rendered to people with Dementia. The forthcoming event to be organized will be face-to-face encounter between governmental officials, particularly under the governance of new CE, and the Alliance.
2. On-going liaison with Legislative Councilor Hon. Dr. Joseph Lee who has from time to time been organizing platforms for healthcare professionals to voice out individual disciplines’ stand-points on related policies. From time to time he has created platforms for healthcare professionals to meet with officials of FHB for exchange of ideas.
3. Maintaining contacts with Education Bureau in an advocacy for SEN pupils’ best interests; particularly when we
saw government’s new initiative to create 39 OT posts in Mild/ Moderate MR Schools last year. 4. Consolidation and Expansion of Expertise – thank the leadership taken up by Vice Chairperson Ms. Stella Cheng,
many SIGs (Specialty Groups) were still very active and some were newly formed like SIG in Housing. From time to time they had participated in many different healthcare promotion platforms, increasing the visibility of OT in an array of community circles. Few new SIGs were set up in last year, including one in AT led by Simon Wong and one in Driving Assessment led by Dr. Andy Cheng. Details will be reported by her.
5. Fostering a Professional Growth – thanks to the Continuing Education Subcommittee’s, led by Mr. Maurice Wan
and Ms. Konica Kwok, unending effort, series of OT-relevant continuous educational workshops and programs were organized on a regular basis. More courses at affordable price and even free of charge were and will still be organized. Details will be reported by Maurice.
6. Membership Building – attributable to Membership Secretaries Ms. Rebecca Chan and Ms. Jenny Yeung’s
perseverance in maintaining the size of the Association, as of today the number of members is 977 (full member) plus 15 (associate member) plus 11 (student member). Details to be reported by Rebecca. Besides, a survey on members’ professional status and commitments has been launched; members are hereby solicited to give great support to it through your active participation.
7. Relationship with WFOT –
7.1 Stella Cheng, our Delegate to WFOT, attended Its Council Meeting held in this year, has actively helped in the promotion of same Meeting which will be held in 2020 in Hong Kong to all delegates from around the world. Stella will report to us latest progress in the organization of the said Council Meeting.
7.2 HKOTA is required to approve and re-approve local OT educational programs and make recommendations to WFOT according to the corresponding evaluation results. Last year we have set up an ‘Accreditation Team’ to re-approve the BSc.(Hon.)OT operated by HKPU.
8. Enhancement of Visibility –
8.1 Hosting of World OT Day in each of Hong Kong’s 18 Administrative Districts. 8.2 Thank Dr. Kenneth Fong and his editorial team, our OT Journal, HKJOT, has since 2010 been indexed in
Science Citation Index (SCI), with an Impact Factor of 0.840 in 2017, which is the highest point achieved in our history. We are glad that we have been able to maintain the SCI status in midst of a highly competitive environment internationally.
8.3 HKOTA is one of the “I-Create” Founding Members; on-going projects and events have been organized and accomplished. HKOTA should take the initiative to nurture a group of AT experts for publicity purpose.
8.4 Revamping of HKOTA’s website; thank Ms. Rebecca Chan and Ms. Sabrina Li who acted as the key coordinators, today we saw a satisfactory functioning of our new webpage.
9. Network Building – our network has been continuously growing throughout the last one decade; Chairperson’s
current formal participation in different networks included: FMSHK Foundation, Hong Kong Gerontology Society, HKADA, Patients’ Mutual Self Help Alliance, Social Workers Registration Council, HKPU, TWC, OT Board, AHKHCP, AUAHK, so on and so forth.
