Will You Help Us?We are preparing our schedule for the entire

year of 2017 NOW. We’d love to hear from you about the kind of things you would like to know more about, the kinds of restrictions that keep you from taking classes, what are your favorite classes, your least favorite classes, and the list goes on.

If you are willing to take the time to give us your feedback, we will be better able to off er what you want, when you want it, etc. We will be collecting written suggestions throughout the fi rst quarter at the check-out counter. Thank you in advance for your opinions and for giving us an opportunity to make ours the MOST customer focused shop anywhere in North Carolina.

It has been 18 months since I last wrote this segment of our newsletter and, while I am excited to be contributing again, I must take this opportunity to say thank you…to my incredible staff who have worked tirelessly (well, I’m sure there were many times when they were very tired but they kept smiling) to keep Loving Stitches not just operating, but doing all the things that were required of them excellently. And thank YOU for all the love and prayers and support you have given to me and my family throughout Mikayla’s hospitalization, death and during our grief. No one could be more blessed and I love each of you for lifting us up above the waves of sadness and in doing so encouraging us to go on. I’ve been back in the shop the past several weeks as much as possible. Seeing you all again has been so wonderful and I will be working hard to make the future for the store even more exciting for you by bringing in new products you are sure to love but also by increasing our educational classes, clubs, workshops and events that will inspire you to think creatively and color outside the lines!

This fi rst quarter we will be introducing some Sew-cial Clubs we think you are going to really enjoy. Sewing Machine, Serger, Embroidery and Embroidery Software Sew-cial Clubs will be appearing on the calendar and owners of all brands are welcome in most. Teaching will be BERNINA centered but owners of other brands will be able to benefi t from what is taught as well.

You’ll also be noticing some differences in how we offer product in the shop beginning in 2017 as well. I’ve had time to read many industry related books about ways to make your experience better when you are at Loving Stitches and that is our goal…to give you the BEST experience available anywhere. Look for little changes that we hope will make big differences for you.

As always, may I encourage you to read this newsletter cover to cover then keep it for a ready reference. There are simply too many good things to tell you to do it all here.Again, my love and thanks to each of you for being my “Jesus with skin on” these past months. May HIS light continue to shine in all we do or say here at Loving Stitches in this new year.

The more I learn about the new SEW-cial Clubs that will be on the schedule for Loving Stitches guests this year, the more excited I become! We invite you to participate as our guests this fi rst year in all the clubs. NO MEMBERSHIP FEES! NO EXPENSIVE SUPPLY LISTS for projects you may not even like. NO CARTING YOUR MACHINE(S) from home and back. Rather, the clubs are set up as lecture demos or round-robin type sewing experiences (we will furnish the machines and kits) to allow you hands on opportunities to practice what you just learned. You will learn techniques, LOTS of techniques, and tips to make your sewing, embroidery, serging and even your embroidery software projects less stressful and more creatively satisfying. Each SEW-cial Club will be approximately three hours of education and inspiration you will not want to miss. Some clubs will meet four times per year, but most will meet ten times per year. We have tried to schedule the meeting times when most of our customers will be able to attend. How many times we offer each club may need to be increased and we are willing to do that if registration numbers exceed our space requirements.

Registration for each meeting of each club will be critical so that we can have adequate numbers of handouts, club member only discount certifi cates, door prizes, refreshments and such prepared. Seating is limited to the capacity of our classroom so registration will be accepted on a fi rst come, fi rst serve basis. And registration is required each month for each club to make things fair to all who are eligible to attend. If you sign up but do not hesitate to do something else at the last minute, someone who really wanted to come is robbed of that opportunity. So, please be considerate and respectful of the educators who will be working to make this a wonderful experience for you as well as those who truly do want to attend and take advantage of this one-time offer of membership in our SEW-cial Clubs for the entire year of 2017 is $10 per class. Handouts, special coupons and offers, etc. will only be distributed during or at the end of club meetings to registered attendees. Owners of all brands are welcome to attend Sewing Machine SEW-cial Club, Embroidery SEW-cial Club, and Software SEW-cial Club. Because we have very few educational opportunities for our Bernette/BERNINA serger owners, the Serger SEW-cial Club will be brand limited at this time. However, we will be adding basic serging classes to our schedule this year beginning in April for all serger owners, regardless of brand. to take advantage. The schedule for this fi rst quarter is outlined in the Educational Opportunities section of this newsletter. We hope you will like what we have planned for you and that you will consider attending regularly.

Look for our SERGER Club in

April

Join the BERNINA Block Party in March, 2017, an online and in-store quilt block of the month program developed by BERNINA Educator and Master Quilter, Nina McVeigh. Every month, a block with tutorial will be posted to the BERNINA blog, WeAllSew. A new technique will be in each block! Each block can be a stand-alone project or can be put together to make a BEAUTIFUL 81” X 81” quilt when fi nished. We are working on construc on of our store quilt now and plan to have the March block on display in February. Also in February, watch FACEBOOK, or stop in the store to see the display. I’m so excited. This is my fi rst online block party ever! I can do this, right???? My computer skills are expanding faster than lightning! Carol

FABRIC EVENT!

YES, QUILTER, YOU CAN CREATE QUILTING DESIGNS!Have you ever dreamed of being able to create your own beautiful quilting designs? Are you convinced the artistic fairy bypassed you when she was handing out talent or that straight line or pantograph quilting is all that you have the talent to manage? Loving Stitches is happy to offer a MEGA-LECTURE DEMO EVENT just for those who quilt (or who want to start quilting). No matter if you quilt on your home sewing machine or a long-, mid-, or short- arm machine, sit down or stand up model, you are CERTAIN to improve your skills and grow your confi dence after attending this event!

Our guest presenter, Patricia from Quilter’s Rule, will show you how to move templates to create stunning designs that look complicated, but, in reality, are the simplest of shapes. BLOCK DESIGNS, BORDER DESIGNS, CREATIVE FILLS AND NON-TRADITIONAL CROSSHATCHING will be discussed. These techniques can be used by ALL, REGARDLESS OF THE METHOD OF QUILTING YOU USE, EVEN HAND QUILTING. Additionally, Patricia will talk about how to get the designs you create to your quilt.

Seating is limited at each lecture so early registration is encouraged. Two event times will be offered and if your registration and payment are received by January 31, you will be rewarded with a Loving Stitches gift card for $10 at the end of the presentation you attend! Tell your friends who quilt. Spread the word. This is defi nitely a skill building event worth attending!

2017 is here!!Let’s Review Basic Policies!

Loving Stitches Bag Days: Bag days will continue in 2017. With the purchase of a Loving Stitches Canvas Tote, you can save 20% off regularly priced qualifying products in the shop any two days per month for one calendar year from the date of pur-chase. Every bag must have your name on the inside facing at the top and is for your personal shopping only..no sharing, please. When you make a purchase and use a bag day discount, the date of the purchase will be written on the back of your bag. Once two discounts have been taken in any month, you must wait until the following month to claim another discount. BUT...bring your bag with you every time you visit because if you do not take a bag at the time of your purchase, your name will be entered into a quarterly drawing for a $25 gift certifi cate because you helped us “GO GREEN.”

Loving Stitches Punch Tag: Accumulate a discount on days when you are not using your tote bag discount by using your Loving Stitches Punch Tag on qualifying purchases. When the tag has been completely punched, it can be used as $15 cash towards ANY product in the store. Here’s a tip.Hook your punch tag on the strap of your canvas tote so you can be earning savings everytime you shop at Loving Stitches PLUS you can be entered into the $25 drawing with every purchase! Now there is a WIN..WIN off er!

Returns and Refunds: All returns and exchanges must be completed within 30 days of the date of purchase. Receipts are required and a 25% restocking fee will apply. No returns or exchanges will be made on select items (cut fabric, books, patterns, kits, software, embroidery designs, sale items or shipping and handling charges).

Educational Fees: Class, Club, Workshop and Event Fees do not include supplies unless otherwise stated in our newsletter. Our instructors are some of the best, most knowledgeable you will fi nd. On average you are charged less than $2 per hour for education. We greatly appreciate your attendance and your support when you purchase your class supplies at Loving Stitches.

Technical Fees: We are very proud of our knowledgeable technicians and the services they provide for our cus-tomers. We ask that you schedule your service when possible and understand that they can do their best work when there are not unnecessary interruptions. Isn’t that true of all of us? For this reason, there is a minimum charge of $15 any time our techs are called away from their workstations forunscheduled work. We assure you they will give your machine100% of their attention when yours is the machine they are servicing. Our technicians service all brands of sewing and embroidery machines, sergers and industrial BERNINA em-broidery and quilting machines.

Class Policies:Children: We welcome your beautiful children to our shop and are blessed by them. There are toys that are cleaned regularly in their “corner” and they enjoy playing there. There are only three rules.no climbing up or inside of the displays, no touching the rotary cut-ters, and no exiting without the adult who brought them (or someone you designated to pick them up in the case of children’s sewing classes). And remember adults only in adult classes and children only in children’s classes.

Copyright Policy: Copyright infringement is in one word stealing. It is our policy that each student in our classes must own her own copy of any required book, pattern, or embroidery designs on the class sup-ply list. No exceptions ever. The same applies to magazine patterns. Everyone must own a copy of the magazine. The only time we allow flex on this policy is when the instructor has a situation of an out of print pattern and contacts the original designer to obtain written permission to use the pattern in a class and to make copies for her students use. Please understand that this is a very serious off ense and it can have serious consequences for the shop as well as for those who share the unauthorized copies. Instructors are not permitted to tweak someone else’s work, make their own pattern, and give it a diff erent name either. We ask each of you to understandour position and be respectful of what we stand for at Loving Stitches.

Most of us have a stash that is TOO OLD, TOO CLUTTERED, and WAY OUT-DATED yet we continue to hold onto it with white knuckles! Don’t. Too much stash actually obstructs our creativity byoverwhelming us and blocking our most creative thoughts. While some of us may think that we thrive in chaos, research shows that clutter and too much stimulation actually rattles us and then confuses us (especially as we age). For our quilting process to reap maximum quality in design and technique, we need to reclaim our space by getting rid of what we are not using. Toss it, sell it, donate or bequeath it – just get rid of it. Open your space and take advantage of a fresh perspective and renewedpatchwork vigor.

In light of the number of weather related tragedies that have occurred in and around our state in 2016, we can use our scraps to help others who have lost all material belongings. We can use them to create pillowcases to cheer children going thru medical treatments most of us cannot even bear to think about. Or, what about pre-cut, ready to sew, small quilt block kits for their moms who sit and wait, day after day, for any news of improvement in their child’s condition. You might think about using them to make walker bags or lap quilts or pillowcases for nursing home residents, many of whom feel abandoned. The point is, we need to stir up our creativity by reducing our stash and there are positive ways we can do that. Pick any one.

To support you, we will be scheduling STASH SMASH CLASSES that will focus on storing, choosing and using your scraps in your projects. We will also offer STASH SMASH WORKSHOPS to make projects that will help our community and nation become a better place because we use what we have to show that we CARE. Look for both to be on our calendar throughout the year to learn to make beautiful projects, including some of the items we have mentioned. The fi rst Stash Smash will be with the Color Me Scrappy class January 9th. Please bring your stash and help us, help you, help others.

These are WIN-WIN opportunities for you to lighten your stash and, in doing so, free your creativity and grow your skills related to the wonderful art of quilting. I hope you will accept the challenge. Carol
